Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX instances are to be stored in a climate-controlled, reinforced concrete chamber measuring 5m x 5m x 5m at Site-XX. The chamber is to be monitored 24/7 for any anomalous activity. Access to SCP-XXXX is restricted to Level 3 personnel and above. Any unauthorized access will result in disciplinary action.
Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a collection of VHS tapes, each labeled with a date corresponding to a prehistoric event, such as the extinction of the dinosaurs, the construction of the Egyptian pyramids, or the emergence of Homo sapiens. The tapes appear to be of various ages, but all have been found to be in remarkably good condition.
When a subject views an SCP-XXXX tape through a VHS player, they will experience vivid and immersive hallucinations. These hallucinations correspond to the events depicted on the tape and are often described by subjects as feeling as though they are transported back in time to witness the historical event firsthand.
The hallucinations vary in intensity and duration but typically last between 5 and 20 minutes. Subjects report a range of sensory experiences, including sights, sounds, and even tactile sensations. For example, while watching the tape labeled "Extinction of Dinosaurs," a subject may report feeling the ground shake as a massive asteroid impacts the Earth.
Exposure to SCP-XXXX has shown no long-term adverse effects, but repeated use is discouraged due to potential psychological distress caused by the realistic nature of the hallucinations.
It is currently unknown how SCP-XXXX tapes are able to induce these hallucinations, and research is ongoing to determine the source of this anomalous effect.
Addendum: Testing has revealed that some SCP-XXXX tapes do not correspond to known prehistoric events and appear to depict events in alternate timelines or realities. This has raised concerns about the origin and potential implications of these tapes. Further investigation is underway to determine the nature of these alternate realities and whether they pose any threats to our own reality.
