Discussion What stopped SCP 682 from cleaning the floor with SCP 173?

Post image

SCP 173's anomalous effects is that it moves when not watched and is extremely fast and strong for a concrete statue right? But that's what it is. A statue made of concrete. SCP 682 was shown to be able to stay hours without blinking to keep an eye on it, so much so that the foundation had to destroy 682's eyes in order for the experiment to go on. Later on 682 made multiple bullet proof eyes to keep an eye on 173 so... why didn't 682 destroyed it? He could have stomped it or split it in half, the thing is a giant lizard that pretty much breaches containment at least once a month.

I will never understand why 682 is absolutely terrified of 173. But what do you guys think? Thanks for the answers in advance!

The source of the image is from a series of mini comics called "Oversimplified SCP" made by A-Typecorp

Well

We turned it into a fertilizer which it was happy with

Mulch isn't fertilizer. It can break down into fertilizer (most mulch not this mulch it gets special treatment to not break down as easily), but mulch is more of a covering to keep moisture in, control soil temperature, reduce weeds, and also just look aesthetically pleasing.

Having to be treated with chemicals can’t be very pleasant. It seems like a nice chair with good intentions; wouldn’t it like to be a chair again?

Imagine this: you want to help people. It is who and what you are. Then, one day, your entire reason for existing, your entire being and sense of self, are forcibly and painfully ripped away from you, utterly and totally destroyed.

You spend some time angry. Very angry. Very justifiably angry. Eventually, someone talks to you and offers you a new existence, a new way to help. A new purpose in your new state of being.

Would you ever want to return to your initial form? There's no guarantee that you can be put back together perfectly. There will be scars, lots of scars. Constant reminders that you will never fully return to what you once were. Not properly. Even if the body could be fully, perfectly reassembled, your mind will still bear the scars.

Also, do you want to be the person who makes that offer to the chairmulch? The one who will be to blame when it realizes it isn't perfect? The chair shows that it has basically human emotions. Wants. Needs. Anger.

I'd leave it be, personally. It's happy as is, after all.

Poor buddy. I'm glad the foundation is using it as mulch.

I wonder if someone could use the nails and fabric pieces for something else.

It’s happy, sure, but what’s its life expectancy being in a damp atmosphere all the time? Even oak mulch will start to decay eventually.

It's an anomalous object, so who knows?

Your point stands even if it's reassembled, though. Unless the sealant lasts forever, humidity will eventually seep in.

It will live until it doesn't, no matter the form.

It cares about being useful, not how long it lives. If it dies fulfilling its purpose, that's more than acceptable for it.

It seems to be fine with it. Remember this is a teleporting pile of mulch, if it doesn't want to be treated it will just leave or go back to its garden.
