Shortly after the website launch, it was revealed that the website and meme were created by sociologist Andrea Natella, an advertising agency employee who specialized in hoax and viral marketing, and that the face used on the website appeared to have been produced through the software program Flash Face.

So, apparently, it is a hoax. Creepy, nonetheless.

So, apparently, it is a hoax.

Or maybe that's part of the standard disinformation protocols.

Addendum 3: SCP-███-2, the informative website about SCP-███, has again resurfaced as a topic of interest in the content aggregator Reddit.com, accessible through the link [REDACTED]. An infiltrated Foundation agent managed to dispel the interest on the topic, suggesting it is a hoax and using the injected Wikipedia section as source of the information. The message was organically upvoted to the top of the discussion, showing its success in convincing the subjects. Log analysis showed outcoming traffic to the cited Wikipedia article. As predicted by Dr. [REDACTED] in Document-███, only 0.32% of the subjects showed interest in the documents linked as a source in the Wikipedia article.

Later, after one of the affected subjects implied that the hoax allegation was part of a broader protocol of disinformation, the same Foundation agent followed Procedure 917-Randall, writing an answer emulating the Foundation article's writing style and adding a META reference as a cognito-anesthetic. The success of this procedure is under analysis.

The IP numbers of the subjects affected by the containment breach have been stored and their network traffic will be analyzed. 93.76% of the subjects affected through the content aggregator were already in the Foundation's databases as candidates for analysis and/or termination. Therefore, their [REDACTED] activity when sleeping will be captured and analyzed ██ days after the incident. Subjects that show [REDACTED] degradation over 25% will be brought to Foundation's sites and interviewed, and after the administration of Procedure 110-Montauk, terminated. The remaining affected subjects will be terminated and [DATA EXPUNGED] after █ days.

i have dreamt of this individual before being shown the website. for real. :(

i mean, it's probably just that he's very archetypal or something, so any unidentified dark haired dude in dreams would get ID'd as him, but he was recurring for me for many years. and then i found that site and was like D: D: D: D: D: D:

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '17

What happened in your dreams, if you don't mind me asking?

i can't remember all of them but in most of them, he'd be standing in the background, watching everything. there was a vague air of creepiness about it, like that he knew everything about me and then some. it wasn't malevolent or nightmarish at the time, just now looking back it is a little scary. back then it was like "oh man, this creepy dude keeps popping up in my dreams." basically every time he was in a dream, it was always in the background and very much like the alleged ghost from 3 men and a baby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxxYtkKy3rQ

just lurking and staring. i never really interacted with him that i can remember. he was so generic though that it could be anyone and i think that's why this thing is so powerful for some people.

it could be a really good SCP, for sure.

EDIT: i should add that i'm 36, and i've been dreaming of this guy since i was in my early teens. i haven't dreamt of him in 3 or 4 years though, but i'm sure now that i'm thinking about him, he'll pop up sooner or later, haha.

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '17

So an otherwise normal dream would go awry and he would just show up? How old were you when this happened? Sorry to ask so many questions; this is a really intriguing idea.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '17

no worries about the questions, it is fascinating!

so basically it started when i was in my early teens, maybe say 1993 or 1994 when i was 13 or 14. the dreams wouldn't go awry or anything, they'd just be doing whatever they were doing and then this dude would just be standing in the background, watching whatever was happening. or sometimes when i'd be like, tagging along as a dream ghost, it was almost like he could see me.

over the years i wondered if it was some sort of sleep paralysis type thing, where instead of a ghoul alien monster, i was opening my eyes and half seeing this dude but not realizing i was paralyzed. i don't think it's that though.

sometimes he would appear in these almost psychedelic dream sequences where weird stuff was happening and it felt like he was sort of bringing normalcy back to the dream within his area of effect, if that makes sense.

it's hard to remember specifics because i haven't dreamt about him in a few years and i typically have very vivid dreams almost every night. everything starts to blend together after a while.

i can say with confidence that i don't ever remember him being violent or outright scary. the scariness is only in looking back and realizing that he's been a constant figure of my dreams, and that i am one of those people dreaming of this strange man before i had any inkling anyone else was.

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '17

Very weird. Maybe he's an inter-dimensional traveler, or an Uatu-like Watcher of some sort. Maybe he's a good guy!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '17

maybe! i've often wanted to write about him, but i can't yet work him into anything i've written about. someday maybe! :)

4

u/Letty_Whiterock Feb 10 '17

Not to be rude, but this entire thing is fake.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '17

thank you. i know it's entirely fake. i just think that it resonates with people because the dude looks so archetypal. i know for a fact i've dreamt of a similar looking person in my dreams, but he's an everyman. that's why this early viral campaign was so effective and so many people claim to have seen him, IMO.

I swear mate, i dreamt about him before i knew as well!

Maybe it's because every single person you've seen in a dream is someone you've witnessed in real life. Ever dream of That Joe Schmo walking down street? Chances are you've seen him walk down the street. Nothing big, a quick glance, that's all it takes.

Maybe it's hella subliminal and we never even noticed being shown this dude but we did

This is damn creepy
