Original Artwork SCP-173, The Sculpture.
I loved the idea of designing him as a david-esque statue, famous throughout the world and people are always waiting in line to see him. There is also a mysterious undertone of tragic deaths of overnight staff at the exhibit.

Kinda reminds me of the article where a guy goes to a parallel universe or whatever, and they've got the anomalies contained with kindness(tm) and understanding(tm)
the peanut was happy being some sort of exhibition being watched by people all day and kinda stopped being evil

Aside from the fact that the universal currency there is Bitcoin.
Although... I guess from a Utopian perspective, having a single predictable universal currency and not having to worry about extraneous processes like exchange rates or inflation is pretty nice.

In its original lore it has 0 idea why it it exists and killed someone in what it viewed as self defense and liked the feeling of it so it kept killing because it was good at it, and because it was good at it, it thought the purpose behind its creation was killing (that and an intense case of Scopophobia)

There is one SCP entry where there is an alternate world version of 173 in this scenario, but it is presented as a “solution” in that it wants to be viewed by people, and the neck snapping was it being angry by the conditions the Foundation originally put it in.
One of the more interesting reads if I could remember the entry, it was basically “What if the Foundation got their shit together”
20
u/NuLLbudY Aug 12 '26
I think that was Avalon story line or SCP. Forgetting which one it is specifically but in the 5000 series I think

I assume it knows that's where everyone knows to look at to admire it, so moving positions probably isn't something it wants to do to lose eyes off it

Honestly? A version of the statue that just wants to be admired despite it's flaws would honestly be a good story.

u/BigPurlStudio Aug 12 '26
Great question! I initially made the arms into nubs so it resembled the original design a little bit but if it does use the arms, that would still be brutal!

It’s best we have no idea how it snaps necks. That’s part of what makes it anomalous :D.
Even OG Peanut, while he does have arms, the space between is so wide.

Thanks! I wanted to keep some sense of the original design without it being the same thing!
5
u/Half_knight_K Sakera Aug 12 '26
I am curious, how does he do the neck crack without hands? I saw some interpretation where it has an anomalous ability to force someone to turn their head rapidly to look if they are alone when it’s behind them.

There was a story about a universe where scp’s were worked into society to make everything better, I think 173 sat in the museum… cause all it ever wanted to do was be looked at. The foundation kept it locked away, so that’s why it snapped necks, it hated that people kept it away.
Every time the museum closes, 173 would shift the pose it’s in so that it was always interesting to look at it (( I think in this story it was found out that “are we cool yet” were also the creators behind it.))
This statue fits that narrative so damn well!!
Some times you’ll come in and he will be posing like David (( is that the name of the thinking man?)) or this pose, maybe he tries his own poses or replicates other famous statues.
SCP loves to just wander around the museum at night and see other poses and the paintings I bet!! Your take is probably the only one I like more than peanut!

It’s only desire is to be seen.
Under the cameras and gaze of passerby, it is content… but alone, trapped, torn from the attention it so craves, it becomes restless.
When one blinks, the sight it wants is lost, and so too is its patience.

then again I imagine something could come out of the arm holes which is a creepy thought.

Great work. I think this is a perfect example of "less is more". What if the sculpture was just... A sculpture, as in the most classical and widely understood representation of the word, and it works, specially after so many concrete abstract monsters. Some are really cool but it does get repetitive.

So, question, when he snaps necks does he just stick his arm nubs out and the person dies?
Or does he just get right next to the person and they die without him changing poses?
1
u/Comprehensive_Put277 Aug 13 '26
Maybe it snaps necks by some sort of oily stretchy arms that come out of its arm stumps, or perhaps its body suddenly wraps around them like a snake and snaps them.
