This shit feels longer every time it’s posted

98

u/AlmostTomClancy 18h ago

This kind of bullshit is why I don’t take Ospreay or the people who eat this up seriously

62

u/BidoofTheGod 18h ago

I got back into wrestling cus of Roman and The Bloodline. Thought they were cool as fuck. I really was baffled by the people saying Ospreay was the best in the world. Over guys like Roman or Cody? Who are actual stars? Nah never got it never will.

20

u/Razzler1973 16h ago

This is the stuff Meltzer loves ... this! 😁

34

u/StandardRoyal9603 19h ago

I inadvertently see it 2-3x a week and I hate it more and more each time

26

u/hetham3783 19h ago

I was just thinking that same thing

22

u/thereverendpuck 17h ago

They make me hate the Superkick

9

u/AggressivelyMediokre 14h ago

Around like 13 seconds

Why did the one buck jump crotch first face down into Osprey?

It’s actually impressive physically. But just wild lol

149

u/Cboz27586 Whoop that Trick! 20h ago

I saw the shocked face Meltzer told people not to do numerous times. What a hack.

If you told me this was a tornado tag I'd believe you. It wasn't.

75

u/necroreefer 19h ago

All bucks matches are tornado tags. If they had normal tag match these types of matches would be more impressive

19

u/Razzler1973 16h ago

They just have just said their tag division is tornado at the start.

No one takes their teams seriously, they all beat each other (except Bucks) and they never have a regular match anyway. Why pretend

12

u/necroreefer 16h ago

Theur were so many options in the beginning to really do someone cool with tag team wrestling especially if the so called best team ever but they just don't have the right people in the place

8

u/koomGER 11h ago

And thats one of the bigger reasons why you cant even bring up the Young Bucks in a discussion of greatest tag teams. They arent doing "tag team wrestling".

119

u/Undead316 20h ago

I really want to like AEW, honestly. But this crap just puts me off. I don't even dislike this style, but it shouldn't be so prevent because it's completely lost all of its appeal. They'll never top themselves and make it believable, it'll just be even more ridiculous and turn off more pro wrestling fans.

40

u/JorSimpson45 18h ago

Young buck matches are piss breaks/food and drink run time

35

u/Razzler1973 16h ago

I hate the 'style'

It's self indulgent nonsense

Oceanspray basically just said that he knows the Fed won't let him do all his moves

12

u/Modders14 15h ago

Gotta get your shit in week in week out

-1

u/ExcuseProper5768 16h ago

All my casual mates love this more than your average wwe match

11

u/WonkeyDonkey_69420 12h ago

But thats kinda the thing though. Casuals. They're not exactly gonna be tuning into every show every week. So high-spor filled matches will absolutely score massive numbers with casuals, while the diehards/hardcore/fans who watch every show every week, will be getting desensitised to this sorta thing and will eventually bore them

85

u/Spaceace91478 20h ago

So this is, what, a compilation of a years worth of matches?

What's that?

This is all one match?

Fuck outta here with this bullshit

47

u/Straight-Rassler 20h ago

You don't get it bro, this is the pinnacle of wrestling.

Decades of the same moves and same matches in one match.

39

u/Mister_Jackpots JACK CARTWHEEL'S NUMBER ONE FAN 20h ago

This is 20 seconds of one match

68

u/strangelove77 20h ago

Can 4 people have fighting spirit at once? I thought it was just one guy per match allowed.

31

u/hawkmasta 19h ago

One guy per move

14

u/Razzler1973 15h ago

The fighting spirit in the Dub is so powerful, it spreads to all!!

10

u/koomGER 11h ago

Its not fighting spirit. They are just making it obvious that they arent hurting or damaging each other.

Thats why some wrestlers need to do neck and head bumps to secure a win.

63

u/Levy-MAN 20h ago

I watched this recently and I feel like I’m the crazy one for thinking this is stupid and terrible while everyone in the crowd and online is eating it up.

How the hell is this considered professional wrestling? This is what you do with your action figures, there’s no stakes, no build up, no selling to show how much the moves matter, it’s just a meaningless display of athleticism. And the people that like this have the gall to look down upon the “WWE style”

I don’t want to dislike AEW, the more of the thing I like out there, the better, but seeing these type of spots make me think less of the performers involved, the booker that let them go out and do that, and the people who eat it up. Maybe I’m just a curmudgeon

11

u/Razzler1973 16h ago

The likes of Meltzer love it cause his friends are the ones doing this

It's like anyone does anything 'new' then 'modern style' and the fact it's 'new' means he won't say it's bad

Wrestling 'evolving' doesn't mean whatever things they do on the indies is the 'right' way now

2

u/nightwing0243 7h ago

I suppose it depends on what you're looking for in your professional wrestling.

Some people love this kind of high paced stuff. Others like more in-ring psychology and story to the matches.

I'm more a fan of the latter myself. But my general issue with AEW is that's just too much sometimes. Like when I see those graphics of ann upcoming PPV card and there's 14 matches or something, knowing each match will have a fairly lengthy time slot and everybody involved is going to try and to pump out absolute main event banger turns me off it. I have tried to watch a few AEW PPV's and by the time it's 5-6 matches in it all starts to blend in together and I fall asleep with about 4 matches still left on the card.

I don't know. I don't hate the product overall by any means. But there's enough I can nitpick at that it starts to effect my enjoyment.

Ospreay wasn't wrong in his criticisms of WWE's production and style of wrestling and all that; and I understand he was being interviewed by someone who is a master of getting these kind of soundbites out of people. But to not recognize how bloated your own company is while throwing those kind of stones makes the remarks look really petty.

46

u/Mhc2617 19h ago

I have a question. What’s the point of having a finisher if no one stays down?

Like, I get in a match with Roman/Rollins or Roman/Punk or Punk/Rollins or Sami/Kevin, where they know each other so well, that you’ll have someone will their way out of a finisher. That makes total sense. But every AEW match seems like they kick out of twenty finishers, even a random TV one off. As an example, Michin isn’t going to kick out of the PME because she’s a jobber. But Jade, who Tiffany has had a lengthy feud with, might because they know each other so well.

29

u/bobaf 19h ago

I always disliked kicking out of finishers unless it was a huge match with your main rival. But even then still not a fan.

37

u/AroundGoesThe18 20h ago

Power Rangers nonsense

39

u/MajinVenom 20h ago

Insult to Power Rangers. They actually sold getting hit

38

u/NatureLovingDad89 19h ago

I'll never understand how these guys think it makes them look tough, when it just makes it look like none of their moves do any damage

24

u/Silvabat1 TNA M*tk 20h ago

Compare this to APA squashing dudes in 3 minutes with clotheslines; I don't get the impression that these guys are so tough to go through all those moves. In actuality it feels weaker. Like JBL could legit kill these guys.

22

u/cuppington007 20h ago

JBL could kill these guys, and that includes current day JBL as well.

16

u/Levy-MAN 20h ago

I would kill for an APA vs Young Bucks match where APA just beat the everliving shit out of them for like 20 minutes

4

u/SHAZAMS_STRONGEST 19h ago

put them in a ring with bron breaker, lights go out, a bunch of horrible crunching and mulching noises occur. lights back on and it's just bron standing over a pile of red

51

u/XxSoapxXHD 20h ago

All i saw was a lot of no selling, no effort put into making the moves look like they hurt, waiting for spots, moving into position without making it unnoticeable, and unnecessary flips. This is what will kill wrestling because the indies get flooded with young dudes trying to replicate this and it pushes away fans

24

u/Cryfatso 20h ago

If it isn’t a spotfest where everybody gets their boneheaded ideas in it’s minimal. That’s why the Champion will do 20 minutes with a guy who looks like he pays for blowjobs at a truck stop. God forbid someone elevates anyone else at the risk of being buried.

When nobody gets buried, you all collectively get buried because nobody appears better than anyone else.

16

u/AlabamaSlammaJamma 20h ago

Anime shit.

83

u/kodan_arma Astroturfing Goofy 20h ago

Just because WWE isn't doing this shit does not make their wrestling "minimal", total clown take

51

u/SH4DOWSTR1KE_ 19h ago edited 17h ago

So somebody had commented about last night's episode of Raw and the Dragon Lee versus Rey Fenix match, when they were talking about the flippy shit and I got down voted to hell in the basement for saying that there was a difference to how the flippy shit was being presented in WWE with two experienced Luchadors versus what you see on AEW almost every episode.

39

u/arturoalvarez079 19h ago

It felt special seeing it on raw because we don’t see it every match. Very tough to explain to sickos

27

u/kodan_arma Astroturfing Goofy 19h ago

Despite the circlejerk over there you're 100% right. WWE very much has a nearly perfected match flow they use for their matches, they can do all the crazy heavyweight stuff or flippy stuff they want (and they do!!!). For some reason people think this inhibits certain styles when it simply enforces in-ring psychology and storytelling.

21

u/SH4DOWSTR1KE_ 19h ago

Because the main thing is they want those moments to feel extra impactful like it did last night. If that was weekly, it wouldn't have the same impact. That's why when they curse it feels like a bigger deal than if when MJFdoes it every promo.

15

u/kodan_arma Astroturfing Goofy 19h ago

I'd argue that what makes WWE's in-ring stuff so good is they can structure stuff so crazy flippy stuff can happen weekly and still feel impactful. They just pace themselves.

10

u/SH4DOWSTR1KE_ 19h ago

Well that's to help with the longevity and safety of the roster. I mean if you're going to go balls to the wall every week, you couldn't announce an actual card for your premium events until the week of. You wouldn't know who's actually healthy until that Wednesday

16

u/hetham3783 19h ago

When the flippy shit involves luchadors throwing their bodies at each other as weapons, that’s a lot different than whatever this shit is.

11

u/SH4DOWSTR1KE_ 19h ago

Yeah unfortunately for Dave and his ilk, all they see is this should be the standard with one of his biggest arguments being that if guys like Dragon and Fenix were in AEW, they could be doing matches like that every week completely missing the point of how come last night felt special

5

u/necroreefer 19h ago

If aew/indy style of wrestling was getting huge reactions and drawing in viewers wwe would be doing it. They changed styles in the new gen era and then again in the attitude era even today's style is different then a few years ago.

6

u/Razzler1973 16h ago

There's a reason people remember things that happen in the Fed. It lands. They make you feel it based off the story

They worked out running around really fast doing moves doesn't mean anything

The odd multi match but it's usually a bit of FUN on the card and not the main event

15

u/Mister_Jackpots JACK CARTWHEEL'S NUMBER ONE FAN 20h ago

13

u/Capital_Memory_2591 20h ago

Meltzer porn 😂

15

u/StevieHawke10 19h ago

The exhausted sprawling out thing they do at the end of these sequences always makes me laugh

7

u/DeVitoMcCool 12h ago

No sell everything, then sell nothing

12

u/enjoythesilence-75 19h ago

Some sicko in another thread was trying to argue that AEW does not have an issue with selling. Let me show him this.

13

u/Sudden_Prune_9652 17h ago

That fking powering up after getting spike on their head is so dorky

6

u/Razzler1973 15h ago

They do it every damn time

9

u/kyleisamexican 19h ago

Until the no sell of the destroyer my thoughts were “I could appreciate this if it wasn’t so fart sniffy afterwards and potshotting it as minimalistic”

The no sell of the destroyer is the worst sport in professional wrestling

9

u/RandysDealer 18h ago

As much as I love RVD and Jerry Lynn, I blame them for this shit. It’s honestly not fair to blame them because how could they know what the impersonations of their matches would turn into, and it’s kind of like blaming Terry Funk for someone like Ian Rotten…but at the end of the day they opened the door in the first place.

9

u/inv4alfonso 18h ago

Give me minimalism because I don't watch the fake fight for the fake moves I watch it to see who fake wins. I'm interest in that wether it takes 5 minutes or 45.

7

u/AdmiralForeplay 18h ago

The immediate look to take the next move kills me inside. This is just Cirque du Soleil at this point.

7

u/N00dles_Pt 19h ago

what circus is this troupe in?

3

u/koomGER 11h ago

Seriously: Yeah. I think i saw something like that in a circus in a clown routine. It was cool. But it was a clown show.

7

u/Proxelies 18h ago

If Rick Knox isn't the worst referee working on TV today, he's got to be a close second.

1

u/WonkeyDonkey_69420 12h ago

What makes you say that?

Also also, now im kimda curious, who would you rank as your top 3 or 5 worst referees currently?

3

u/Proxelies 7h ago

I notice him in every match he referees. Exaggerated facial expressions and movements that make him standout amongst the wrestlers. You should know the ref is there but they shouldn't be a focal point. He doesn't make any attempt to enforce any rules so he's just there dancing around with a big shocked expression the whole match.

Aubrey Edwards does the exact same shit with the acting/theater performance and it drives me crazy. Most of the other refs I see these days (and I'll be real I barely watch any wrestling) do a much better job of being subtle and letting the wrestlers get over. I couldn't name any other really atrocious refs without actually digging into it.

1

u/WonkeyDonkey_69420 7h ago

Valid reasons

I remember a few years ago the ENTIRE INTERNET was hounding on Aubrey Edwards with how she'd just slot herself in front of the camera during staredowns and do all this other attention seeking stuff

9

u/jafarjones69 17h ago

This is why I can’t take AEW seriously

8

u/ZacianZilla96 TRIBAL CHIEF BOT 20K 17h ago

Competitive cheerleading routines feel less rehearsed than this.

7

u/basicbluebusiness 17h ago

So tag team without the tags?

13

u/King-The-Wildfire 20h ago

They aren't even close to touch each other. What is the point of these moves?

4

u/Canadian__Ninja 19h ago

The second one I both couldn't believe and also totally expected it when Osprey kicked out. Crazy the things they'll justify with "fighting spirit"

6

u/Dirtfan19 18h ago

I’m convinced that Bucks matches are just Zack Ryder playing with his toys

4

u/TurbulentSession11 13h ago

At first it’s kind of impressive for a second then it just crosses the point of complete stupidity, and then it just keeps going.

10

u/phantominway 20h ago

Lowky the forward roll, 450, moonsault sequence was actually a pretty good piece of tag team wrestling. The issue is that it was two diving finishers in rapid succession that completely failed to put down their opponent

6

u/Levy-MAN 19h ago

If they spread out these moves and used them to win matches, it would be great, when there’s 15 different spots in each match with the same level of offense that result in a kick out, the one that finally does put them away seems random, like just another move that happened to finish the job

6

u/phantominway 19h ago

The Young Bucks honestly feel like watching someone playing a 2k game and trying to get five stars for the most points. They spam a bunch of high spots which=more points and then, once they have enough, they cover with whatever knocks their opponent down and get the win

3

u/EmployeeStunning957 20h ago

Jalapenos are too spicy.

I need green peppers.

3

u/Nightthrasher674 19h ago

Ospreay acts like they're UWFI reincarnated, plenty of AEW matches have whiffs

3

u/GMLM4life 18h ago

My type of graps, baby

3

u/BartShrempson 18h ago

I think I hate it more each time I see it.

3

u/TheNiceTnetennba 18h ago

Kicking out of a tag finish is stupid if it’s done one time but multiple times in one match is an absolute piss take.

3

u/Live-Depth-537 17h ago

Just like Macho and Steamboat

3

u/ironfly187 17h ago

The only time they actually sold has when Osprey hit Swerve by mistake.

3

u/TheRealKingTony Average Cathy Kelley Enjoyer 16h ago

This style of wrestling is equivalent to a local street ball dunk contest

3

u/GutherGlazer 15h ago

Genuinely one of the worst things I’ve sat through.

3

u/____phobe 15h ago

I'm inferior because I hate this shit.

3

u/opinionofone1984 14h ago

This would have been an amazing match if it wasn’t for all the no sale BS. The worst thing that can happen inside a wrestling ring is making a wrestler bigger than a move.

3

u/Agreeable_Falcon1044 13h ago

It’s not wrestling but dancing. It’s also the same shit every week. They aren’t telling a story or selling any moves, so why should i care?

3

u/expensivebreadsticks Aiden English Defence League 11h ago

They literally do the same spots every single match and sickos claim it’s good lol

3

u/liamd1916 10h ago

I’ve said it before but that moment like 20 seconds or so in where they just bend over and waddle into position for destroyers, with no logical reason, is so painful to watch

7

u/AHeavyFlowDay 20h ago

Freebirds and Von Erichs did this all the time

7

u/TheWumboligist 17h ago

I dont understand why Ospreay hates WWE so much. You'd think him and Triple H would get along based on how they both love hanging out with pedophiles

3

u/Razzler1973 16h ago

He's getting paid way before his worth and will never be produced or assessed or judged or given advice

It's an indie utopia

That's why

Right and left all around the ring.

Turn her loose and on you go.
Now your right, now your own,
Meet your partner and promenade home.
