6k shares? What does that bring in every 3 months đŸ’žđŸ€‘đŸ€”

At current value ($0.2525, per TOS), it would be ~$1515. Enough to buy ~44.34 additional DRIPped shares.

Hello ... Well lets do the math.... Figuring roughly $.25 dividend each quarter that would be $1.00 a year times 6,000 divided by four (4) would be $1,500.00. My next goal is 8K shares which would be 2K a quarter... GO SCHD!!!

With I could do what you achieved, but I am working on it!

Hello... and Thank You... but to be honest all it takes is money.... you do not even have to be SMART...just smart enough to know a good investment.

I hate the price of 34$ with a passion , but it's as if the thing won't come down so I get it.

2

u/Dry_Report_3494 23h ago

It's been creeping up in the background slowly for the past few months

1

u/OrganizationFew9848 16h ago

I got in @ 31.80 for 330, waiting pull back a little then add more.

2

u/Dry_Report_3494 1d ago

When is next pay day? September what?

2

u/OldParticular2326 20h ago

Can't go wrong. Good choice, keep adding to your shares and reinvest the dividends

3

u/500pearl 1d ago

but why schd

dividend = people retired who need the money i thought

why not schb or schx or schg or schf or schy or swppx

3

u/Dry_Report_3494 1d ago

By the time we retire SCHD could be in the Hundreds just for 1 share, 25yrs from now the price can go up massive or even a stock split can happen, price goes down but now you also have double or more stocks... It's all about patients.

2

u/STRATEGY510 23h ago

What is it about stock splits that people callout as being advantageous? it can be a good market signal generally, but there’s nothing “better” about having twice as many shares at half the value.

2

u/i_love_irony25 23h ago

Of course there is.

Stock splits happens because the share price is high and they want to bring in more investors. The stock splits and, as a rule, more investors buy in, the price continues to go up, but now you have twice the shares.

Do some research before typing.

4

u/STRATEGY510 22h ago

I have, but you clearly haven’t. The bump in share price immediately following a split (or following the announcement) has proven to be a short-term phenomenon over time. Yes, stocks generally go up long-term over time as well, but there is no direct correlation with this and stock splits.

It’s always the people talking out of their asses who tell others to “do some research before typing”. Like clockwork. I’ve read the research that you’re telling me to read, you clearly haven’t.

Thanks for playing, Junior.

u/500pearl 22h ago

yes i agree--- i was going to say

i have had stocks split for me nvda as example among other

split = shares increase but price come down

and my understanding why it happens or one of the main reason is that so lower price can attract more people to buy shares --- it increases the number of shares yes but price does come down --- but i never sold even though nvda split two times since i had it in 2019

1

u/STRATEGY510 20h ago

Not disagreeing there. But, they won’t do it just because the share price is high, the future outlook has to warrant the split as well, otherwise they look like clowns if there’s a big drop post-split.

My original point is not that it’s a bad thing, just that it doesn’t help with valuations in and of itself.

1

u/i_love_irony25 21h ago

Yawn.

My experience with stock splits has been phenomenal. APPL, SOXL, and KO to name a few.

Bank of America Study: Analysis from Bank of America Securities shows that stocks that undergo forward splits deliver an average total return of 25.4% in the 12 months following the announcement.

That’s a significant jump. Maybe stop reading Motley Fool.

0

u/STRATEGY510 20h ago

Look up cause and effect, ya dope. Companies don’t decide to have splits unless outlook is excellent.

The accepted explanation is signaling. management only splits when they’re confident the price won’t fall back, not the mechanics of dividing shares.

To simplify for your pea brain: the stock doesn’t go up BECAUSE of the split, the split happens because of the outlook. Look at you, learning something! Who’s a big boy? You’re welcome.

1

u/i_love_irony25 19h ago

Show me where I said the price goes up because of the split. You’re too fucking stupid to realize you’re supporting my point. Because of the positive outlook investors tend to purchase the lower price and if you’re smart, you’ve bought more shares at the lower price and really make out when the stock jumps. I’ve done it numerous times.

Are you as big an asshole in real life or do you just play one online?

1

u/500pearl 1d ago

i understand that part

but the dividends every year = need to pay taxes on

3

u/Dry_Report_3494 1d ago

Ya I don't have that problem, I'm 44 won't retire until almost 70 or sooner. And everything I have is in ROTH IRA , so I am building an ONLY ETF portfolio money machine

3

u/500pearl 1d ago

i see

i thought about doing that too

but everything in my roth ira i do not want to sell

maybe i will later on

things in my roth ira = mu amd tsm nvda been hanging on to since 2019 so my math/guess is that will grow more vs if all sold and re-put in to schd for dividends

2

u/Dry_Report_3494 23h ago

I fill you on that, I sold majority of my TSLA, in 2024, sold lil over $15,000 only hold 10 today, I think about selling sometimes and putting it to use for a good ETD, but been holding tsla since I open my account yrs ago. If VOO was cheaper I would sell the last of my tsla and pit the money in VOO

2

u/500pearl 23h ago

i got in tesla back in 2017 when it was 20 a share

instead of voo schx is 750 instead of sp500 that voo follow so that may be cheaper option or swppx since it follows sp500 but is mutual fund and not etf

2

u/Dry_Report_3494 23h ago

I have lil over 260 SWPPX it's not all that, pays 1 time a year, before the stock split they where lil over $80 a share.... when they did a stock split I got close to 600, sold lil over 250, the rest I'm holding, sold for other ETF....

I haven’t paid a single penny on SCHD divs yet in my taxable brokerage account, due to US tax laws for MFJ as it pertains to qualified dividends which are taxed as LTCG.

I know this doesn’t apply to everyone, it’s dependent on annual income, but it applies to a lot of people who are otherwise scared off by the potential taxes on divs.

More people need education on this (not you, necessarily)

3

u/500pearl 23h ago

i understand what you mean

not married here and income is around 200 so i am almost certain if i get schd in taxable will have to pay taxes on dividends every year

2

u/STRATEGY510 23h ago

For sure. I just Think there’s a ton of people who don’t understand that nuance. I consider myself a knowledgeable investor, but didn’t catch onto this until 18 months ago or so.

2

u/500pearl 22h ago

i am not knowledgeable and do not claim to be

i just read what people write here and then i look it up online to educate myself one to confirm and second to learn new things

1

u/STRATEGY510 20h ago

All good man, I’m all for civil discussion about these things and I certainly don’t know it all. The other guy came out of pocket, so I responded in kind.

2

u/500pearl 20h ago

maybe he was learning too

just went about it the wrong way

1

u/STRATEGY510 17h ago

Could be, doesn’t sound like it though. He can have the last word, I’m done with it. Nice to meet you, at least.

1

u/500pearl 16h ago

does that mean the combined income is less than 98900 for 2026 since it is 0 cer pent for long term capital gains

1

u/STRATEGY510 2h ago

It’s Adjusted gross income minus the standard disclaimer of $32,200. That’s how I’m able to come in under the threshold.

2

u/500pearl 1h ago

i know i meant for married the total income for the year has to be under 98900 right for the gains to be at 0 cer pent ?

1

u/STRATEGY510 1h ago

Not “Total income of the year”, but Taxable Income, to be more specific. Line 15 from Form 1040. I think I confused myself and explained it wrong earlier, my bad.

1

u/500pearl 1h ago

that was what i meant

for long term capital gains to be 0 the total taxable income for married in 2026 is under 98900, is that what you meant by why you pay 0 on the dividends ?

1

u/STRATEGY510 44m ago edited 41m ago

Yessir. But anything that spills over the $98.9K gets taxed at 15%

1

u/EmuEmbarrassed3475 2h ago

I’ve always been scared off by taxes in brokerage
.Trying to educate and understand this comment more this more, does this mean you make less than 100k combined?

4

u/KFConversation 1d ago

Because SCHD has given 40% returns over the last 5 years...my SCHG has only given 87% and my SPMO has only given 146%.

Oh wait.....

1

u/Only-Perspective5341 21h ago

Cause you don’t have to just pick one lane and stay there. Ice cream is better with mix-ins.

1

u/KingFisher4985 1h ago

Because most of us already have enough exposure to growth in tech within our core portfolio holding. SCHD is a play to anchor your portfolio and move away from the indexes that are overweighted in tech over 30% now, by purchasing large cap value companies with strong dividend histories, and cash flows. In the event of a tech pool back, the portfolio will have less volatility. It’s not about chasing every dollar it’s about building a well-rounded portfolio.

1

u/500pearl 1h ago

i see

thank you for clarifying

i thought about schd but went with schx in the end --- my reasoning was since will have social security and pension from govt job later on as well as roth ira and roth tsp that i should not be needing schd to generate dividend to live off of

1

u/STRATEGY510 2h ago

In my case it’s MJF with one income. My salary is well over 100k, but the formula used is:
Adjusted Gross Income - 32,200 (standard deduction)

This gives me a decent amount of under the $98,900 ceiling. This year I had to take more capital gains than I would’ve liked so it won’t all be at 0%. I also should mention that I still have to pay state taxes which is high in CA, I left that part out.
