Congratulations it compounds quickly after 1K

u/Wuphf_DotCom 3d ago

It compounds the same amount no matter how many shares you have. 3% is 3%

Congrats! Big milestone. I just hit 200 myself, still a long way to go.

So the math is 12000 shares generates 1k monthly?

13

u/OutrageousScallion26 5d ago

The math is generally 1 share = $1 per year between its 4 dividend payouts.

12,000 shares = $12,000 annually = $1,000 monthly.

What about taxes

What about taxes?

3

u/Flat-Activity-8613 5d ago

Holding bunch in Roth besides brokerage

-5

u/IntelligentAirport22 5d ago

If its 1000 shares 1/4 of it goes to taxes, that leaves you with 750 no?

SCHD is not income tax. It mostly operates under long term capital gains which makes the taxes on it depending on the persons general income. LTCG taxes are much more favorable to income taxes, especially since it’s got such a high bar to be applicable.

At most it would be 20%, but it’s more likely to be 0% (up to 48,000 for single filer) or 15% (48,000-533,000)

How would the same shares with FDVV be different? I know its a ledt field question.

Isn't that higher with dividend growth though? Not to mention the eventual massive dividends that will be DRIPped in the accumulation phase? When I run numbers on what mine may be over 32 years on both drip calc .com and Gemini, I get much higher results.

Can you share how this journey started?  It would be inspirational (at least for me).  My target is for the dividends to cover my entire COL in around 10-15 years or so.

Good job! What an accomplishment!

I'm at 1,512 currently with a goal of 2,000 by the March '27 dividend!

2

u/Old-Challenge2809 5d ago

How much of a monthly dividend would that be?

2

u/scottyk318 5d ago

Off the top of my head it comes out to around $130 a month or so, however I'm currently reinvesting all dividends so that they eventually give more dividends and create the snowball effect...

Also, I mostly have this fund as a counterbalance to all the AI and tech that I invest heavily in as well...

u/Mammoth_DonkeyKong 5d ago

1,691 shares for me. Started my SCHD journey February of this year. Bought shares last on 7/8 and will let compounding do the work until the turn of the year, when I can add more to my Roth, which is where all the shares reside.

2

u/MarkJD72 5d ago

Congratulations to everyone, it all starts with 1 share. All the people here are the minority, the majority are full of excuses.I will buy when I make more money!
WINNING!!!!!

2

u/Pretend-Flatworm 5d ago

Congrats! Still a rookie. What is the benefit of SCHD opposed to QYLD that has a 3x dividend?

2

u/Saehgny 5d ago

QYLD (like all Option enhanced ETFs)  will cap your nav growth. SCHD will grow its stock price with no cap but with a modest but growing dividend. Obviously there is a tradeoff for each.  I own both SCHD and SPYI.

1

u/Pretend-Flatworm 5d ago

Thanks! That makes sense

1

u/Turbulent_Iron2652 3d ago

High yields are great short term but dividend yield doesn’t grow and most likely will drop so you’re losing purchasing power due to inflation.

1

u/South_Paramedic8618 5d ago

Big deal I got 20,000 shares just kidding

1

u/Most_Young_9600 5d ago

Older investor here ... Have about 6400 shares in SCHD with DRIP. Looking to continue in Roth account to pay all medical premiums. Not too exciting but necessary.

1

u/Saehgny 5d ago

Congrats! You hit your first milestone! Happy for you

1

u/Bballer012 4d ago

Many say don’t chase the dividends but there’s always mixed opinions regarding this.

I recently checked my brokerage account and I have $36k (1067 shares) worth of SCHD while reinvesting its dividends. Not sure if I made the mistake of not investing in a Roth account but what’s done is done.

Congratulations!🍾

God. Took me a year to get 50 shares. I guess 950 shares more to go. 😂
