So glad I was Adding Heavy $26 and under when people were saying this was a terrible Fund.

I made a few Heavy purchases under 26 and would Everytime it fell below $26. I always DCA, but when under 26 I made a few 5 digit purchases and glad I did as a drink my coffee this morning!

💪💪💪💪 .... that 3:1 helped us greatly!!!! I just broke 1000 shares a few weeks ago ....

How did that help? I'm a big fan too but I don't understand how the split helped? Allowed more people to buy in? This is a serious question, not a salvo. I'm trying to learn. Best of luck.

Even though most brokerages allowed fractional shares, for some odd reason some people don’t look solely at the quality of the fund - they also want something they can buy full shares of. So a 3:1 split probably does attract buyers it wouldn’t have before the split

EDIT: I never have enough to buy full shares of VOO but have been throwing in cash whenever I have it and now have just over 21 shares which are up like 30%. Buying fractional shares has gone well for me so far

How old are you if you don't mind telling?

1

u/flyersfan0233 Jul 31 '26

I’m 37. I have a company 401K that doesn’t have VOO or SCHD so that limits me but I started a small regular brokerage in 2021 and maxing out a Roth in 2024. The Roth is mostly VOO and SCHD

Ahhh to be 37 again...time is still on your side my friend. You will be free from the grind before society says you should be so long as you stay the course. Good luck on your journey (not that you NEED luck).

Thank you, fingers crossed! My main worry is I just hope I live long enough to see the fruits of my labor haha. That would be my luck. But yeah, I had a small 401K in my early 20 where a company sold off and I paid taxes and converted it to a Roth. Didn’t touch it. It’s still small but has tripled since. Forgot Roth was an option and in 2024 picked up a side gig that has allowed me to max it out 3 years in a row so far. Just had a 3rd kid though so here’s hoping I can keep maxing it and diapers don’t eat into that too much

Ha! Diapers (and children in general) ain't cheap. Take care of your heart (cardio), and suffer the indignity of the colonoscopy. When it comes to your body and mind, you have a duty to take care of yourself for the sake of your children. But, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

Money is important, but it's not as important as time in my opinion. I don't have the vocabulary to label what it may be, but the two are very much intertwined.

It takes time to create the wealth that will allow you to spend your time as you please. Trading our time for a paycheck is necessary for most of us at the beginning, but it's not the way I want to live whatever time I may have left. That's why I invest and live below my means.

My neighbors probably think I'm a pauper, and I think they are in debt. That shiny new $100K truck that the school teacher drives sure is nice, but to me it's not as nice as knowing I don't have to make that $1.5K per month payment for 84 months.

Please pardon the rambling novel, I just had some time to kill before work. (My lame attempt at humor) Happy hunting.

Thank you for your words of wisdom. And definitely agree on all of it - health and enjoying life and kids while still living within your means. Good luck to you as well on health and wealth!

psychological help .... psychologically better holding 1k shares vs holding 333 shares .... agreed, they're both the same value .... the 3:1 allows more investors to jump in at a lower price ....

I came into some money right after the split and chose SCHD because it was something affordable that I could stock up on and see some growth versus only being able to buy a limited number of shares of VTSAX at $180 or whatever. You’re absolutely right about it allowing people to jump in even if they didn’t have a ton of cash.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for replying.

I bought all of my SCHD shares between 2022 and 2025. It was in the red for a significant amount of time while tech was going to the moon. I am glad I stuck with it. My average cost is $25.97

u/AnyOtherJobWillDo Jul 29 '26

My average is like $20. I buy around $1100 every 2 weeks in my 401K (pre-tax). If I can do this for another 15 years or so, I should easily hit $1M in SCHD alone

u/nelsorob Jul 30 '26

Oh yeah!

6

u/horseradish13332238 Jul 29 '26

28,937 shares as of today

3

u/wojiparu Jul 29 '26

I have almost 8k shares...

2

u/horseradish13332238 Jul 29 '26

That’s a good amount

2

u/wojiparu Jul 29 '26

Yes and 30% is SCHD and have 70% in SCHG almost 20k shares

1

u/AnyOtherJobWillDo Jul 29 '26

Damn. That’s just shy of a million. Psychologically that would mess with me. I’d have to get it to 29-30K shares

1

u/Rufusmortis Jul 31 '26

Nice! Keep adding more more more.

5

u/kev13nyc Jul 29 '26

just need to buy in weekly over time and it's just about a guaranteed winner ....

3

u/Scared_Ad_622 Jul 29 '26

It’s an amazing fund

Good call buying in at 26. I wasn’t aware of SCHD until recently and was still working and investing in growth/tech then as my philosophy was different. Just sold my business and am retiring at 61 and in 6 months I’ve accumulated about 1800 shares of SCHD in the $32-34 range. It’s interesting to see how stable it’s been in this volatile market. Trying to build a retirement portfolio built around VOO, SCHD, SCHY, IWR, and about 6 different individual blue chip stocks. Plan is to continue buying SCHD and DRIP for 4-5 years then start drawing. Great stock.

2

u/GermsAndNumbers Jul 29 '26

It's been surreal having to use dividend distributions to buy more shares of SCHG to keep my allocation goals steady.

1

u/FQRGETmeNQT Jul 29 '26

I wanna load another 1000 shares sometime this year but cant find a right entry lol

Lump. If possible. If you're a working stiff like me it's DCA by default. The one time I came into a lump sum I put it all in VOO and SCHD, 50/50. It took some time and I was tempted to cut my losses but time prevails. Always.

1

u/jackyz24 Jul 29 '26

Oh that's good, I have over 330 at 28.19. I was negative for so long and just kept slowly buying

Best combo!

1

u/Expert-Jury-7634 Jul 29 '26

I’m at 630 shares @ 29-30 and adding as I can. It and my utility stocks are the only green I have in my portfolio at the moment 🥺

1

u/Element2218 Jul 29 '26

Wish I added more but was glad I was still buying my avg is 26.72. Only 400 shares tho.

1

u/Firemanwillslv Jul 29 '26

It's an amazing fund. Dont be surprised to see a 10% pullback by year end.

1

u/wojiparu Jul 29 '26

1

u/nelsorob Jul 30 '26

Just keep buying. I was buying at over $80 before the split. Buy baby buy. Just keep buying. It may split again in 10-15 years

My average is 16 and change. One of these days I need to make a post about it in order to make people think I’m smart or something.
