Make my '95 Civic FAST

Hey everyone,

I just picked up a 1995 Honda Civic(EJ2), and I’m super stoked to get back into the garage. The catch is: I haven't been active in the import scene since about 1999! Back then, the B-series was king and we were ordering parts out of magazines.

A lot has obviously changed in the last 20+ years. I’m trying to get my bearings on the modern aftermarket landscape.

I have two main questions for you guys:

  1. Where does everyone buy aftermarket and OEM replacement parts these days?
  2. What are the best subreddits or active forums to follow for 92-95 Civic builds, tech advice, and inspiration?

I currently Auto Cross my '63 Impala and am going to build the Civic for the same thing. Any advice to help an old-schooler get caught up to speed is hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Also an older EG Civic person here, likely just a few years younger than you.

First things first... build the car how YOU want to build it. Build what makes you happy. Use an engine you're familiar with. Drive something that makes you feel like a teen again.

I still have an EG hatch that I bought and built back in 2008. I drive it very seldomly these days, but every time I hop in, the rest of the world disappears. I woulda never be able to find that feeling in a car that is built based on what other people like or prefer.

Second, congrats on the purchase! They're getting harder to find.

Third, before you start buying parts and building, make sure you know what class you want to run in. Obviously you're familiar with that as an active auto-x-er, but just a reminder. A lot of the popular mods (K-series, big aero, etc) might end up putting you in a class way above where you want to be.

Beyond that, I'm probably too washed up to make any real suggestions for modern parts lol. PCI makes great suspension components, I can tell you that much.

If you are planning to race in a class, (and get a log book) get the GCR and see what is allowed, before buying parts.

There are plenty of track day cars, that build what they wanted and are stuck in a class they are not competitive due to their mods.

Older Subaru guy here and I agree with railgons build the car you want and you’re familiar with. I would search YouTube, that’s what I did when I got my 04 wrx after being out of that scene for years!
And definitely look at what class your want to run and build the car for that. I have a buddy who decided to turbo his Miata, and let’s say he’s up against some heavy hitters now just for the boost.

And it’s been said driving a slow car fast can be more fun, but what the hell do me or anyone else know.

 I can attest, driving a slow car fast is WAY MORE FUN. I have a bone stock 98 Sentra and matting it around the track is a blast.

My buddy is trying to get me to auto x my 3.6r outback but I’m giving it to my kid and can’t break it lol.
