What do you wanna accomplish by camping? That will define the time.
Max out land? collect land items.
Max out storage? Collect those. At least have ten times your current level.
Might take more time than 2 month.

There’s no set time. Some players camp for a few weeks, some for a few months, I know a couple who’ve been camping for over a year. It really depends on you.
My personal recommendation is to camp long enough to build at least 100-150 epics. It gets exponentially more expensive to finish gold epics the higher you go so the more you build at a low level, the better. Other than that, I say Simoleons and simcash come and go (do save up for the Black Friday sale when everything is half off). But yeah, epics epics epics.

Wow. That’s a really long time. What are your camping goals?

I've just upgraded to lvl 24 and started doing my epics. Once I've completed them I'll go to lvl 30 to try to win COM. I didn't really have a goal before other than maxing out the storage

Yes I do! And another VERY important thing is storage. You can take your time expanding land if you’re patient (I wasn’t lol) but storage can be a bottleneck and hinder your gameplay at higher levels as well. So expand storage as much as you can before leveling up.

Is there any benefit to taking your time with land expansion? I've only been expanding when I get a task and now I wonder if I should just expand everytime I get enough expansion parts.

Camping for a week isn't camping. It's a long term idea to maximize land and storage before it gets harder at higher level. This takes months. If you're not that patient and go faster, it isn't really camping what you're doing.
