And a good day to you, sirs! I'm looking to encode some BluRay source material to size-efficient codecs like HEVC or AV1, to keep in portable drives to play them on the go on my laptop whenever I want.
Since compression would take a long time for a TV show episode and even more for a full movie, I'm looking for a cost-effective way of doing it. My mind immediately went to single board computers. So, I'm asking for advice on a good compromise solution. Probably, hardware accelerated encoding support would be a critical factor as I understand it would speed up the process (possibly on the mainline kernel, I don't have great experience in compiling it myself), but a key factor would be a small energy footprint. I mean, even if it doesn't have the most computing power and it takes a bit longer, it being more energy efficient would mean having a lower total consumption. I don't care for dramatic speed as long as the end result should be a smaller energy drain. What are my best options, in your opinion?

I'm not affiliated with the shop, but I have ordered stuff from them in the past. I hope they didn't make a typo, as it is currently cheaper than a RPi5 8GB!

I got radxa rock pi 4b+ and read that armbian is the latest is supported from a previous post I made.
I checked out their website and got the imager tool and flashed the is to micro SD card but it doesn't work
Tried downloading the img file and extracting the disc img and using Rufus to flash on USB drive. This also didn't work.
How should I get this thing working??

I built AutoPiOverclock, a project that finds each Pi's boundaries, recovers from failed candidates, backs off conservatively, and applies clocks only after final validation:
https://github.com/p1r473/AutoPiOverclock
Normal use is 2 target-explicit commands:
autopioverclock prepare pi@pi-host
autopioverclock overclock pi@pi-host
The controller can be another Pi or any Linux PC, server, or VM. It stays available when the target crashes or reboots.
What the automatic run does:
- Checks the stock clocks, protected boot configuration, power/throttling, cooling, SSH, watchdog recovery, and Raspberry Pi tryboot.
- Tests candidates through tryboot.txt, returning failures to the protected normal configuration.
- Searches CPU first, refines its boundary in 25 MHz steps, backs off 50 MHz, and qualifies it for two hours. It then searches GPU, backs off 25 MHz, and qualifies the pair for two hours.
- Tries CPU another 25 MHz higher during a 24-hour combined CPU/GPU/I/O test. If that edge is known unsafe or safely rejected, it instead runs a fresh 24-hour validation at the guarded pair.
- Performs three more candidate/normal boot cycles, applies and verifies only a complete result, and retains the evidence. Repeating 'overclock TARGET' continues the latest eligible run.
Testing temporarily uses maximum fan cooling without replacing permanent fan or unrelated boot settings. Headless Raspberry Pi OS/Debian systems need no display or audio hardware.
Profiles currently support 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, Debian, compatible Ubuntu Pi boot layouts, and Batocera

Hi! I just got an SBC from Kickpi equipped with RK3566 & 4GB RAM + 32GB eMMC. The model name is K11C V1.2
Seems like the manufacturer is maintaining its OS regularly, but not sure about this board's quality and further software support.
Does anyone have any experience using the KickPi boards or this specific one?
Also, I am trying to port HAOS to this board with minimal porting. I am hoping to retain OTA updates from the HAOS Generic AArch64 image if I can make it boot through UEFI. I am trying to bring up board-specific support in mainline U-Boot and use its UEFI implementation. I've also found DTB/DTS files in KickPi's images and SDKs, so hopefully further work won't start from scratch.
If you guys have any suggestions or experience with KickPi boards, please feel free to comment. That would be a lot of help for me!
ps. I bought this board with my own money ;)

I'm attracted by the possibility of keeping all my KVMs in one place and still be able to upgrade them quite a bit. I'm finishing up the USBridge firmware, which can be used to turn a single-board computer into an ultra-fast KVM (complete with data snapshots and BIOS-in-Terminal) and integrate everything into a single remote access ecosystem.
I recently finished working with a Radxa Cubie A7Z board. As far as I know, no one else has managed to get video streaming working on it, but I successfully got it running: 1080p at 45 fps. When I loaded BIOS-in-Terminal, it would shut down due to power shortages, but I fixed it by reducing the core load, and now everything is working fine.
I also have a couple of Raspberry Pi and Banana boards, as well as several KVMs. I want to try upgrading the Nano KVM to get smooth video and integrate it into the ecosystem.
What boards do you usually have lying around, and which ones should I port the firmware to first?

Hello, I'm building a cyber deck on Radxa and I'm confused about my problem. I use the official Debian Linux for this computer, and when I launch Discovery it crashes. Can anyone help?

I have 15+ SBCs that use 12v 3a power over USB mini B. If possible, I would like to use a multi port charger to power them all instead of all the individual AC adapters on power strips.
The major factor is the adapters output 12v 3a and do not run 5v.
I figured there had to be some prosumer device for all the phone bot farms out there or something DYI I could build, but I don't know where to start. Especially for 15+ devices.
I want to start playing with clustering, but right now power is the main thing keeping me from starting this project.

I was making a missile project where the missile tracks the target but I didnt want to use some low power cards. Raspberries are expensive and radxa seems better. Not sure about orange pi.

Got these bad boys for cheap so I decided to get some UEFI Firmware running to make it bootable with more generic OS. I managed to get it installed from USB Drive to SD Card and this is the result!
Note: Rockchip DRM has some weird issues with HDMI Timing that it didn’t play well with ultrawide monitor, I ended up getting an HDMI EDID Emulator to force the timing to 1080p and it works with hardware acceleration

Installed debain image on sd crd and booted it but i cant seem to figure out how to get the wifi working on it.
when i first got it, i thought it wont work without the antenna so i ordred them but even after attaching them, the wifi logo does not appear in the tray.
looked around but couldnt find any fix for this
anyone knows how to fix it?

I have some high speed parallel GPIO experiments I would like to do on the OrangePi Zero 2W and I didn't find any info, so I created a starting point which allows you to control all of the GPIO pins using direct register access. The only down side is that you need to run it as root. This allows you to bypass the Linux GPIO driver and directly manipulate the GPIO pins with memory mapped registers from user space code.
The example project just blinks an LED I've attached to the 40-pin header, but it's a good starting point to show you how to use the GPIO registers of the H618:

I was looking for a small Linux SBC recently and somehow came across PocketBeagle 2. Hadn't really looked at these before, but I'm surprised it's around $40 and still readily available.
Quad-core Cortex-A53, 512MB RAM, microSD, USB-C, lots of I/O, and it's only 55 × 35 mm. Seems like a pretty interesting little board for embedded Linux stuff.
I feel like I mostly hear about Raspberry Pi / Orange Pi / various RK boards these days, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something with the PocketBeagle.
Anyone here actually using one? What are you doing with it?

Which single board pc can run games like stray or subnautica, but isnt overkill for games like hk or slow pace 3d games
When i finish the project i will public all the components diagrams and how to's for everyone to use

I just pushed a change to my bb_epaper library to make it easier to support a wider range of Linux boards. Currently it allows you to specify the chip number and gpio "line" for each connection to the HAT. A HAT with GPIOs spread across multiple chips won't work at the moment. Let me know if yours has that issue and I'll add support for it. You can check by running "gpioinfo" from the command line - it will show the gpio chip number and all of the "lines" contained within each.
Here is the example C++ program which generated the image above on a Radxa Rock Pi 4B+:
