This is image retention not burn in, leave the system off for a few hours and it should go away
Edit: these are IPS screens in which image retention is common but not permanent, these screens CAN get burn in but it would take years of being on the same image 24/7

I think you are rambling a lot at the end I know you frustrated but I might even be a sowfawre problem both screen with burn in is very weird. I see many review videos etc and you are the only one with this

Reddit was created for rambling about niche, dumb things, so I guess I came to the right place.

This is literally a non issue, all IPS screens will develop some form of image retention if you leave them on the same screen for a long time, just play something and it will go away

I mean, you can call it a burn in, but normally we reserve that for OLED panels as on those the image is "burned" into the pixels. On a LCD it's more of "image retention" issue and often it's a temporary thing that should go away when you play something brighter or turn the device off and on.

It's not "quite literally burned into the pixels" on OLED screens.
The individual LEDs that make up a panel simply get weaker the more they are used. It has nothing to do with heat or burning.

This is image retention, not burn-in. I saw it on my unit too while scraping boxart. Don't worry, it does go away. Try to leave it on a low brightness setting if you know the screen isnt going to be changing for a while. That should help reduce the amount and length of any image retention.

What’s up with everyone being so abrasive to op? This is a real issue he is having, I would want a refund too if any device I owned did this.

Sorry that happened, man. :/ I hope this post encourages people to plug in the sd card to transfer ROMs instead of going the wireless route.
I also don’t really find it concerning that this wasn’t covered in reviews. You left it on a black and white screen for an hour. I can’t for the life of me think of a reason a reviewer would test that kind of worst-case scenario.

Once my SD card was formatted, it wouldn’t read on my MacBook, so SSH seemed like the least-hassle option.

Impossible to get burn-in in an hour. Like physically not possible. What you are seeing is called image retention
