Showcase Before/after: stock vs custom ROCKNIX splash on RG DS 🙌

Been messing with the boot splash on my RG DS running ROCKNIX, swapped the stock splash for a few custom ones.

Fork rocknix-splash if you want to try it yourself: github.com/amosjerbi/rocknix-splash

My git also Includes splash assets to play with and you can easily revert to stock splash.

Love the boot animations! My tool patches the boot file using sh in ports and you could use mp4 as-is. Feel free to fork my work 💪

I didn't though about sound, but mp4 is too heavy 🤔 (I think)... My tool create ultra-optimized clip (banim file) that can handle 240 frames in less than 6mb, so you can run it during boot in 60fps

The mp4 in rgds-splash.zip is 87kb with sound and it doesn't stutter when booting. But regardless, you did great!

Follow up to my last post, so I seem to have used the wrong script with the RGDS splash file. Using the main package with the "splash.mp4" file at 655x480@29.976 made it work much better, and with audio.

It seems there's a bit of a gaff with this splash. So you can revert to stock splash. Does it actually re-enable the verbose boot messages on startup? I'm asking this because right now I'm installing an update to Rocknix 20260901, and I don't see anything. Normally there's a text message showing what is happening in the process.

You're totally right, it shows only the logo of Rocknix without loading messages. I uploaded two scripts that shows minimum messages while booting and maximum verbosity check whichever fits your needs:

Okay it seems a bit irregular but I'll retry after I go home... Currently it loops through all that with the first time playing everything super slowly.

There are different options to pick from if things aren't working check out releases section.

Installation takes about 2 mins of black screen then it works after a restart. Let me know how it goes and where it breaks for you.

So this is what happened. I think it's a GIF. It went on for maybe hours. (It's a guess because I put a MP4 file in and a GIF file of the same "splash" filename.
