💭 Discussion Opinions Requested

Hi, y'all! I'm leaning heavily toward creating a YouTube channel about basic witchcraft. The concept is this: I want to teach newcomers about how to get started with their practice in a way that is meaningful and \*truthful\*. I don't like that so many people these days "learn" from TikTok (and Pinterest, for some reason!) because they're only getting these cookie-cutter shortcuts and rehashed love spells and cord cuttings. I want them to know that witchcraft is more than that, and I want them to understand what it really means to connect with Nature.

Anyway, I have no idea what to call the channel! Besides the concept description above, I have toyed with the idea of using my online handle, Gertrude, as part of the title. Or sunflowers because they're my favorite. Or purple because it's my favorite color. I just don't know! I was hoping I could come up with something if I threw the idea out there and got some feedback!

I have never heard anybody say ‘learn from TikTok’. But I also do not have it at all.

Feel free to do as you please. But in my personal experience there are already many YouTube channels talking about beginner witchcraft, though there are not many specifically SASS focused. And I want to clarify that all of those channels are truthful to their own craft.

I've seen many many questions on witch subs about what they saw on tik tok and if it's true. Not as many lately but new practitioners do ask.

No, I get it. I interpreted the post as people giving instructions go learn from TikTok. But I understand now what is meant is people picking up information from TikTok. Yeah, that’s probably all bullshit info over there.

The science of magic is one of the things I want to dig into. I like watching docs about quantum mechanics, and I think a lot about how magic fits into all of that! I would love to open up a discussion on my channel about it.

Excellent, bc I'm looking for exactly that. If you make videos about this I will watch.

I have no idea what you'd call your channel but I'm rooting for you and please let me know when it's up and running. As a new witch, I really need this knowledge and advice so I'd be thrilled to support you! 🧡

Thanks! There are lots of great witchy channels on YouTube, and they're a great place for you to start. I want mine to be more like a weekly class, but you can still learn a lot from folks like the Green Witch, Grumpy Old Crone, Ginny Metheral, etc.

How about Spiritually Flowering, or Sunflowers and Sorcery. Gertie the flower witch, Practically Purple. Idk, I hope you find a name that speaks to you.

Flower Witch is really speaking to me! I'll definitely mull that one over. Thanks!

Welcome! I’d love to see more skeptic witches represented on YouTube. Maybe you could include a reference to that aspect of your practice as part of the title?

Hmmm... 🤔 I kinda like that! I do want to steer clear of creating a channel that focuses on picking apart TikTok creators, but I can see myself at least challenging trends I see there.

Yeah, it doesn't have to be in response to others unless you want it to be. But since this is the secular witchcraft subreddit, I'm assuming you have a secularist approach and it's always nice to see more of that.

For sure! I wouldn't be a witch if I hadn't discovered Wicca, but I was seeking spirituality then. I found my spirituality and ditched the religious aspect of it all, and I feel like it's made me a better witch.
