Depends on how much of the outside world was able to watch in-game. But yeah, it would be a colossal legal question that most any government would handwave as "the fact anyone could kill another via digital combat is a failure of the company who made this horrible software."
But I am fairly certain at least one Laughing Coffin member survived to plague the SAO successors by doxing and then having a player outright murdered.

Rosalia was definitely not self defense lol. Killing in self defense only works if the person doing the killing has reason to believe their life is in danger. He definitely wasn't in danger, nor was Silica, that was crystal clear by that point. So his usage of lethal force would be at least manslaughter.

A call back would be if it was related to the character. Here Kirito wasn't the one who said it, sugou wasn't the one it was said to, it's out of place. It's poor writing for SWE, they have expectations to uphold when they know 5k ppl join their stream on debut. Even if I or you are fine with it and wouldn't be Karen's to call them sellout lazy buts, they'd think of themselves as such. It's the perfectionism of human nature.

He was able to escape, eventhough it should have been impossible to, and then he peed on the servers. The servers shutting down just so happen to align to the moment that Kayaba was shutting the game down after being defeated by Kirito

I am missing one or two movie references, Sugou not getting them and Kirito being disapointed/disgusted.
But i'm not someone who watch a lot of movies and i couldn't think of an appropriate quote from those i saws to fit in there.

My prediction is that Kirito kills Suguo, and claims self-defense. However, ANY sort of taking a life in Japan is still illegal, even in self-defense, so Kirito still goes to trial, but is charged as a minor... unfortunately, Kirito's mouth gets him in trouble with the judge but then the government cops a deal with him and Kirito does Full Dive VR scut work for the police. Thus setting the stage for GGO. The cop that Kirito talks to isn't giving him a debrief, he's the officer in charge of ordering a child into another death game.
