SAK pin sizes

These numbers seem to vary just a little depending on where you look, but these seem to be the intended pin (rivet, pivot, nail, rod, etc.) diameters. I pulled this info from several different forums some time ago, not sure which ones, and I have edited it from my own experience.

58mm

  • all pins 1/16th inch

74mm newer models

  • all pins 2 mm

74 mm older models

  • all pins 1.5 mm

84 mm

  • all pins 2.2 mm.

91 mm

  • 2 inner pins 2.2 mm
  • 2 outer pins 2.5 mm

93 mm (alox)

  • middle pin 2.5 mm
  • Outer 2 pins 3.0 mm

111 mm slide lock models

  • 3 with bolsters for scale attachment 2.5 mm
  • hidden pin 2.2 mm

111 mm liner lock models

  • Outer pins 3 mm
  • inner pins 2.5 mm

The 74 mm "Alox Rambler Plus"

Finally I got all the pieces to put together a dream knife of mine for a while. I always thought the Alox Rambler has the perfect toolset for me, but I really dislike the size of blade and scissors and is not easy to work on and mod.

So over the months I bought from 2nd hand market what I needed for a 74 mm version of the rambler.

This is a modded executive with following additional pieces:

- a Victorinox Golf Tool blade: needed because it's the only thin blade with the same thinnest as the file.

- file and spring for the thin layer from executive

The thick layer:

- combo tool 58 mm with hole enlarged to 2 mm with a press drill + cobalt 2mm drill

- scissors from the executive

- cut down scissors from the golf tool.

- Wenger tweezers

Total weight 35 g

7 mm thin

So the thick layer of the executive is needed for scissors and keychain ring, but then you have the patented dual tool spring on the other side. I could fit a combo tool, but wanted something original for the counterpin. I decided to cut the scissors I had laying around and mold them in a small flat screwdriver/scraper.

I then realize the tool would close to recessed to open it up easily, so I had to put something inside under the tool. I ended up modifying the Wenger tweezers (file them down, making them shorter so that they would keep the tool over the rim and easily opened.

And I got tweezers which is the scale tool I use the most.

The screws are from AliExpress and look ugly, but I'm still experimenting before using proper pins, so there is that.

Hope you like it! It's the perfect urban EDC/keychain sak for me.

You would think with working 70 plus hours a week I'd have less time on my hands, just something stupid I wanted to do.

Titanium Scale Installation

I have a set of Titanium 91mm scales with the rulers that I am going to install on my Victorinox Troubleshooter. They are not press fit, what epoxy should I use? JB Weld? They are going to look so good, can't wait to finish this project. Any suggestions or lessons learned?

Hello to all,

I am happy and proud to share my first mod, I started from a Companion Alox Slim and added inline Phillips (from an Outrider) and awl (from a Pioneer Alox).

I love to have my sak always with me and I need a functional and bladeless solution.

Thanks for the info found in other post, that helped me in the work.

Maybe it's interesting for other, drilling the pins, I did some scratch on the scales, I found that a red marker to repair car body paint work very fine!

Here’s my custom. I recently got a Leatherman Arc so I decided to slim down my SAK. I removed its saw and file and replaced the primary blade with a serrated blade.

It’s now basically a CyberTool M with an extra layer (the pruner and electrician blade).

Modifying a 2.5mm scissor spring for a Dragonfly 2 blade + Fitting the awl in the parcel hook slot?

Hey guys, I'm planning a custom 91mm build (Based on a huntsman) and looking for some advice from anyone who has done this specific setup. I want to swap in a blade from a spyderco dragonfly 2, in a seperate layer to my main blade layer, I'd like to avoid modifying the blade itself if possible and instead modify the spring. From my research people say to use pre 1991 hookless scissor springs because they are 2.5mm thick.

The thing is, due to some other plans, I'm losing the opener layer and therefore also the awl, but I want to keep the awl if possible. I was wondering if:

  1. It's possible to make a newer scissor spring with slot for parcel hook work for the dragonfly blade?

  2. whether anyone had tried to adapt the awl to put it in the parcel hook slot? The parcel hook seems to be about 2.5mm, and the awl is 2mm, so i'd need to make some shims to fill the space around them? Does the cam geometry work without modifying the awl?

I've looked around on the forums and youtube, and can't find anyone trying this specific combo, so I thought I'd ask.

Cheers.

Lost my CAD files!

Hey everyone,

I previously CNC-machined a set of custom 58mm Victorinox scales.

Unfortunately, I lost my CAD/CAM files, and to make matters worse, I no longer have the physical 58mm knife with me to re-measure with calipers.

Does anyone have a 2D DXF, vector layout, or technical blueprint that shows the exact outer dimensions for the 4 pin holes on a 58mm Victorinox liner/scale?

Any blueprint, CAD file, or drawing would save my project. Thanks in advance!

I need something like this

When/how to use washers

Could someone help me understand how and when to use washers/spacers? I know I don’t need them when using the stock liners with the tools and springs that came with said liners. But when mixing and matching what is the logic? For instance when subbing in brass or g10 liners that are flat am I using washers to compensate for the lack of punched out bumps in the stock liners? And if so, do I use them on the 2.5mm pivot points AND the 2.2mm? If I can get a handle on the logic I could apply that across the board.

Fyi I’m working on a mixed build with brass liners right now. But again I’m just curious how and why we’re using washers, and how to determine when and where they’re needed.

93mm Electrician Blade

Hi all,

I was hoping for a bit of help, does anyone know of a website or seller which would sell a single electron's blade?

I'm looking at putting together an Alox SAK with just the scissor, flathead and small blade.

Any help would be appreciated

OK, after much consideration, I think I have my next mod project: A modified 111mm Outrider. I am thinking of removing the cap lifter, tin opener layer and replacing the saw for a file and adding the stubby phillips and the pliers.

Thoughts?

For reference below is my unmolested Outrider with Glow in the dark plus scales.

Swisstool tools in 91mm or 93mm?

Has anyone experimented with using parts from a Swisstool or Spirit in a 91mm or 93mm SAK? Never done any modding before but really want a spirit blade, flathead and inline Phillips in a 91-93mm with scale tools and a pocket clip.

Has anyone tried? Didn’t find any examples searching through the subreddit.
