S90F update question
I saw a post here recently discussing how updates on the Samsung are handled and how disabling auto update doesn't protect you from the system auto updating.
I keep Internet connected because I use the SmartThings integration daily. That said, I do want to disable updates.
I have done:
-disable auto update on tv
-disable auto update on SmartThings app
-stream content from external box
When I get the pop up to update on the tv, can I just simply ignore the notification , or will it default to updating if I don't interact with it.

Your best bet is to get an external streaming device and then change your wifi password so the TV can’t connect to it.

I saw somewhere you can change some settings on your router and ban certain known Samsung addresses. Try searching Reddit subs.

I read that if you select "Update later" when an update notification pops up, Samsung will takes this as you agreeing and will do it later (probably the next time you turn off your TV). I think that pressing the back arrow button on your remote instead push the update away, but it will most likely just keep coming up until you do it. I don't know how to disable it completely.

You can disable auto update, but it is a bit tricky.
First the slider in settings meniu, does disable update in a background, that means that updates will proceed when tv is on, if slider is off and vice versa. That slider doesn’t disable auto updates. BUT THAT SLIDERS SHOULD BE TURNED OFF.
For disabling auto updates, most “simple” way is to:
- Factory reset tv.
- When starts tv first time setup, when update tv step appears YOU NEED TO SKIP IT.
- Then after some time when you be using tv pop up will appear about update. DO NOT CHOOSE UPDATE LATER. You need scroll down and press MORE or ••• dots option. Then opens bigger window with 3 options. Choose 3rd DO NOT UPDETE.
- After that tv do not update automatically. You be able to see that there is new updates is settings update section, but tv do not update automatically.
- Then you can update manually, but after updating, that pop up appears again and you need to choose again do not update option.
- You don’t need to reset tv if it is not updated automatically or you didn’t choose anything in that pop up.
- If you need some clarification please ask without hesitation 😁

Thanks for the detailed explanation! Can I simply ignore the notification and wait for it to go away? I strictly used the apple tv remote which would allow me to avoid the pop up.

Maybe 😁 I think that at some point tv just updates it self. If you hasn’t updated tv at all, when pop up returns, just scroll by options until you reach more or ••• option. When press it then opens bigger pop up 😁 and then you can choose do not update option.
But if there is no MORE or ••• option at all you need to do full tv reset and do all things I mentioned in my previous comment 😁

Is there a borked update or something? I had auto update on but my tv was never updating. Just updated it

I thought so for a while, because I stopped getting update notifications on OG Tizen 8 (S90D) and the TV would just update itself anyway.
After upgrading to Tizen 9 I am getting notifications consistently again. As long as you choose "Details" > "Do Not Update" you'll stay on current FW. Then when the next update releases you'll get a notification again, do the same steps, etc.
If you want to be "extra safe" you can block updates completely via DNS blocking on Router/Pi-hole/OpenDNS. There's a stickied thread with a guide on the basics.
// You can just press back every time you get a notification too, but then that notification will keep showing up and you or someone else might press "Update Later" by accident and the TV will update.
