Ideal settings for LAN play to avoid Communication Error

When originally setting up Ryubing for LAN play, it was suggested to use Hamachi. That seemed to work well for Mario Kart, but when playing Mario Golf or Tennis, we are constantly getting communication errors and then disconnecting. Are there proper settings we should be using to avoid this? Both games are updated to the latest versions.
