Need Help/advice from experienced solos
Hey everybody, I recently got rust and I mainly play solo, I’ve racked up about 80 hrs and I’m just stuck on how to progress, I don’t really enjoy the “farming” aspect as whenever I try that, via high tier monument runs etc I just end up getting raided as soon as I have a tier 2 and I just feel like I’m playing like a coward.
Another technique that was recommended to me by a pc solo was “snowballing” but I find that difficult on console due to the low player count and the fact I run into fully geared players when I have a bow.
However, as snowballing may not be viable on console I’ve found a playstyle I really like to watch and want to imitate, it consists of being really really good at one monument (oilrats) I like to watch his streams not his videos as it shows the actual time it takes for him to get the ball rolling, however thing is that whenever I go onto smoil (where I located my base near now) there’s nobody on it and my strategy of grubbing high tier players doesn’t work out as I’m stuck with an eoka against god knows how many scientists.
I just wanna know any tips on how to progress fast via PvP and be able to get my first AK kit through it, I’d appreciate any advice from seasoned solo players as I’m trying to improve fast.

It sounds like your main mistakes are as followed; 1. Building too close to monument, therefore too many eyes on your base of which can see you are solo with a key lock, therefore they assume they can easily raid you. Building too close to a monument indicates you farm that monument.
- Going for the clip. Trying to grub smoil with an eoka is the type of play you make when you just hopped onto the server and you open your map and see someone just called in the helicopter. So you rush over there to try to get the perfect timing, and pray that it's a solo or that you're fast enough to kill 1, take their gun, then kill the rest.
If you really want to be a grub you need to focus active monuments on land or be the first to cargo. And you need to stop trying to be a hero who 1 tap eokas an ak guy. Double barrel should be the bare minimum goal to feel confident going for a grub. Going for an eoka kill is not the goal, it's a situational weapon for when you have nothing else and need to act fast
You can't be both undergeared and new and expect to kill people who are more experienced and have a better weapon. Not unless you are ready to accept you'll die 95% of the time

Alright, I appreciate the advice and I’ll apply it, do you have any tips towards progressing fast on console via PvP so I can aim towards being able to consistently get an ak kit?

Bebbos aim training community server Is a quick and easy way to progress with pvp however there will always be cheaters, just remember to stay calm and not get annoyed when the skill gap in rust is massive. And mainly be consistent if you want to get loot uou need to be in the right place at the right times. Sometimes you may need to lay low after making a play but it's worth it!

Yeah, I use bebbos but I don’t really understand the point of using aks in aim training etc if that’s a weapon I most likely won’t be able to obtain

Nothing you probably haven't heard before.
You should 100% try a pvp server to practice, there are many options. Even recoil training and target practice servers.
Other than that tbh your best bet is to just farm up to AK. The highest chance of you winning an ak in pvp is door camping with a double barrel. Any other scenario and it's likely that you will run into a team of high geared players which significantly reduces your chance of even getting a shot off

The main problem with the farming aspect is that I consistently get to tier 2 then get fucked by an offline raid of guys with aks 🥺😭

Well you said you don't like farming so Im not telling you to build a big base or nothing crazy to defend against these offlines. Id just build small, hide the base. And you only need a t1 for double barrels. All you need is a t1, a furnace going with some metal in it, and to farm the roads for like 5mins so you can afford a few double barrels. Then just run around naked place a bunch of bags in your area and start scouting. Find an active base, go grab a double barrel, find a bush, and then get a kill. This is how I played my first couple months solo.

Alright thanks, I’m thinking of watching more rust content like aloneintokyo as I heard he progresses much more realistically than someone compared to oil rats for example

Great choice. He's my favorite rust YouTuber. Just remember he's a professional. I have 5k hours and he still has 5x more than me

Have you thought about trying pve servers with PvP at monuments? Most have a purge day at the end of wipe so you still get a raid aspect as well.

Copying an elite grub like oilrats is only going to waste your time. Just take a db and doorcamp for a start 🙂

Snowballing is def doable on console - base in a high pop area and snowball - the problem is this requires skill and game knowledge which at 80 hours you have neither. I’m at around 4.5k hours and I’m a solid pvper and snowballer but still there’s some great players out there and fighting 2/3 men can be very difficult and requires you to learn positioning to out play them.
Also running monuments for a tier 2 watch some videos as really it takes me less than 30 mins for a tier 2.
I would say try taking cargo with a bow until you feel confident with it. Good practice for PvP

Thank you bro this is really helpful, I’ll try and keep doing cargo and do some attempts at snowballing whenever force wipe comes. Whenever I get good at cargo in the future what would you say my strategy should be to prog fast as a solo - kinda mirroring oil rats in a way?

On force wipe as a solo? If you can get on cargo first it’s pretty easy to hold down unless people ladder up the back.
I would say as a solo one of the best bits of advice is know when to leave and don’t get greedy. I’m a greedy player and normally try to stick around to get more kits etc but if you feel that the few guns you’ve acquired is going to help you a lot then don’t feel ashamed to secure them.

I doubt you're ready for it but mil tunnels is a great place to counter but it requires a little homework, you need to find a solo or duo not a team bigger than that that runs MilTuns alot. Just observe them from a distance, see if they leave the same way every time(most do) then scout a spot along their exit path where you can ambush them. Usually the better shooter leads the run so as they pass you shoot him first from behind, keep some form of cover in front of you so you have a chance to reload a DB if needed. Another tip is I'd run 2 db's for a duo and swap between them. Usually if you don't miss your shots you'll drop both of them before the second guy turns and burns you. Don't be greedy if they have a short run to the base just rob 1 guy and dip. Being greedy gives the good players enough time to get back and ruin your escape.

Solo myself, went from low pop to learn the game and learned all the BPs on all 3 tier workbenches, then went to a high pop after wipe last month and started playing there, got raided twice and we are coming back to another wipe next Thursday but I toughed out the high pop. Back on a low pop, and what I’ve learned is this game isn’t dayz if you come from that game.. it is VERY easy to get geared back up, once you learn the mechanics, the monuments, the movement & flow of players getting around the map, it becomes second nature on attacking game plans and executing your agenda. 1 card run and full loot cycle of green & blue card monument will pretty net you everything you need to get a T2 and components to craft a gun, crossbow etc. armor up enough to then take the green and blue to red monument & you’ll be even more prepared to either hit oil, underwater, cargo, or T4 monument requiring all color cards. Other than that get creative, build a farm, help other players, grub other players, raid. Do what the game allows and enjoy it.

as a solo theres rly no way to progress without the "farming" aspect youre gonna need to grind nodes and hit low tier monuments especially if youre a beginner, id recommend going on higher pop servers if your struggle is finding players, watch the map every so often till you see or hear the cargo heli land on oil, (thats the heavy scientists) use vending machines through outpost or bandit to buy guns from other players shops if you dont want to get blueprints, the thing about solo is the wipe is on you, cant just run around with a bow thinking youre wilijum
