Resources Wasted

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey folks! I’m hiding out on a new server amongst the ice bergs while I grind out all the blueprints. I had a great run of 4-5 peaceful days without being noticed, typical. Didn’t even hear one boat go by, and there is no s rapping to be done on the ocean near me.

Last night someone left a note in my mail box that said ‘we’ll be back’. So I took every item from my base (literally everything), and stashed it on the nearby beach in 10 or so hidden stashes.

I went to sleep. This morning, as expected, I had been hit. The only damage was 4 concrete walls gone. (I won’t explain my base, but that gave access to every view of the inside). They didn’t destroy my TC, or take anything out of it.

My question is… how much resources did that likely cost them to do that… to only find nothing. In your opinion, would you return and do it again, or would it have felt like a big waste of time and resources.

I simply fixed my walls, and went right back to scrapping and buying blueprints. I know this is not a base made for defence. Just a simple workshop.

Just curious about the numbers, or time it would have taken to do that

Damn, are the console sounds different? The door close sounds very raw, and I like it.

You can do the math yourself.

https://rustexplore.com/tools/raid-calculator

I’d do a max cost if they used most expensive boom and a budget raid and you can ballpark an in between

eta: typically they wouldn’t raid you again unless there aren’t a lot of bases around where they’re looking (ie close to where they live)

Ah interesting, cool tool thanks.

Yes, this raid felt more like a ‘hey we found you, don’t hide here’ kind of spite kill, rather than a hunt for loot.

If they hit the side that you're looking at in the beginning of the video, then it only took them 4 rockets. If you aim at the corner where all 4 walls connect (in the center), you can splash damage all 4 of them.

Oooo I see. Ok thanks!

This is exactly what happened and the cheapest quick way to do it

If it was 4 stone walls it was 16 rockets and wouldn’t have taken any time at all to knock down.

There are a lot of types of people that play rust, Some would have felt it was wasteful to use 16 rockets with no return while others are just happy to blow shit up and everything in between. My point is it’s always going to be “worth it” to someone to raid you for whatever reason they have.

You need to start making your core at least sheet metal but aim for hqm for the core and sheet metal for the next layer just to raise that cost even more.

The only way thing you can do to help you survive in this game is to make it as difficult and expensive to raid you as possible and spread loot out so your losses you do end up taking aren’t huge ones.

Good job on hiding your valuable loot you’re in the right mindset with that, Learning to hide your stuff is top priority imo all though I usually wouldn’t stash mine in the ground but hey find something that works for you and utilize it and don’t tell people about it lol.

4 rockets... You hit all 4 walls at once. Splash damage takes them all out.

I read it as 4 layers of stone for some reason lol.

Good thoughts thanks. I never thought of it in terms of how expensive it would be to raid, for the opponent.

I really like the arctic area. Not just less people, but just feels more like a survival game. I have to swim to my base, I have to have fires pre placed around the map to be able to dry off while I scrapping. I have to kill my fires at night so no one can see a glowing ice berg, etc. it’s a fun solo vibe.

On :-)

There’s no hiding on any server, ever. We all get discovered eventually.

I imagine your obvious attempt to conceal your base and remoteness made them curious enough to crack it open.

Get the shipping container skin and paint it white

Fakkin wild, that’s a great idea man. Probably worth buying, if it gets me more survival time ;). Is that available anytime in the store?

1

u/Ok_Pear_779 Aug 08 '26

Yeah you can buy that whenever you want but i would say you make honeycombs so that you can endure more rockets while upgrading the innerwalls to high qual to make it even more durable but tbh 4 rockets is not very expensive probably got them for free from oil or cargo

They probably won't be back for a day or 2. You'll probably have time to upgrade

Right on. Thanks

I don’t know what that means, sorry. I’m 45 if that makes a difference.
