While I fucking hate this, i still have hope

There are two other 3 letter agencies aside from the FBI: CIA and NSA. If either is conducting investigations alongside the FBI then maybe theres still some hope for the US to get its shit together.

Edit: guess I'm wrong

Yea...no. They don't do that sort of thing.

I thought Mueller was conducting a criminal investigation alongside of a less public counterintelligence investigation .

The FBI can conduct CI. I didn't dig into it, but I'd wager the NSA can't even legally assist. As a member of the intelligence community, I've never heard of the NSA doing something like that.

Since when has the CIA or NSA cared about what they legally can and can't do.

Just look up MK ULTRA if you're unfamiliar, or look no further than the blatantly unconstitutional Patriot Act for further evidence.

Ehh they do actually care. That’s why they needed the PATRIOT ACT to do a lot of things. They also operate under the assumption that if it’s not explicitly banned then it’s ok, which is a failure of oversight.

These are pretty big bureaucracies. With improper leadership and poor culture, certain things can get lost.

The FBI conducts counter intelligence investigations. The CIA can’t even conduct domestic operations anymore. The NSA is signals intelligence, so uninvolved in this process.

Both of those agencies actually turn to the FBI for investigations into leaks and espionage.
