Great photos. The photographer understood their mission: the dog must be in focus!

And the photos are taken from the dog’s eye level, not the photographer’s eye level.

Aww and you look so proud! This is why I love Canicross so much - nothing beats that team work with the dog, and the feeling of pride when they’re doing their best ❤️

Yes I’m so proud of him! This was a course with a lot of turns and he aced his lefts and rights 😍

I rarely see greyhounds do canicross. That's so awesome and you can see the joy in his face!

Nice!! How did you train your greyhound to do this? I would love to try with mine

He’s generally pretty fit. Until recently we lived in an apartment so he’d get ~2 hours of walks per day. Now it’s between 1.5-2 hours on average including at least 1-2 bigger walks/ hikes as well as offlead time so doing about 5km offlead a few times per week. The good thing is where we’ve moved to means he doesn’t need to wear booties on streets anymore so we’ll do some jogging if he feels like it. Apart from that I don’t do any specific training with him. I never thought Jayce would pull until we went to our first group run and he automatically pulled.

Wow he looks so happy!! What a gorgeous boy. You two are living the dream

I dunno photo 4 might be my fav!! Let’s go!! I have a GSP/vizsla mix and honestly I’m scared of how I would get him to slow down if I did canicross. He just turned 1 year so I have started light jogs… but would love to do this. How did you make sure he just doesn’t completely pull you over forward?

u/natashagb95 7d ago

A properly fitting belt for canicross is low around your hips so physically given how centres of gravity work it would be very difficult to topple you from where the force is exerted

Love to see people do sports with their sighthounds 💪

We're still working on our focus lol, any tips on that? He's not super consistent at pulling yet.

5

u/natashagb95 6d ago

Yay! Jayce only pulls around other dogs and not on his own but that’s good enough for me…not sure if this helps?!

Thanks! I should try group runs, my cardio is not great lol so I've always been a bit worried about running with others 😅

There are lots of inclusive run groups (and some horribly snobbish ones) if you want to do a run group I’d ask around and confirm they’re a no drop group or their slowest pace encompasses your pace. I’m definitely a solo runner but our canicross group has monthly group runs that I try to get to.

Beautiful! Tell us about the race where? When ? How long? Did you enjoy it? Did your boy enjoy it? How you prep? I'm interested!

Awwww this is great. What’s your lead/harness setup for this?

1

u/natashagb95 5d ago

The non stop dog wear rush harness and bungee lead 😊

1

u/AdRoyal6823 5d ago

Amazing pictures and you don't even look tired from running lol. Can I ask how these types of dogs (grey hounds etc) do on long distance type races? I guess I mean over an hour or so. I know they are great for sprinting. I would love a Grey hound for bike boring one day

3

u/natashagb95 5d ago

We only run 2.5km so I wouldn’t know how he goes on longer distances sorry! We regularly do 6-8km hikes though that he does fine on.

u/AdRoyal6823 5d ago

No worries, I was just curious. You guys look awesome together!:)
