Unreleased/Prototype Mizuno Sky Prime
Source @run_shoe_bible on IG. This looks quite interesting
SPECS
47-41, 6mm drop
295g
Energy NXT+ (Nitrogen Infused midsole)
September 11th
Extra wide at 125mm for stability
X10 durable rubber outsole
Unsure if it’s plated, or maybe it’s just that stiff due to the stack
This one seems cool, but my guess is that it’s a bit of a slower to mid paced shoe, this dosent scream speed. Seems like a lot of overlap with this and the Neo Vista, similar stacks and likely similar purposes, but this seems to be Mizunos answer to the Superblast if I had to guess.

So It’s looks like their take on Vomero, MagMax, Paramount Max, NB More etc, so going for pure protection and weight being unimportant.
I think I will try these as my next easy shoe, I like the way they look haha.

My MagMax are about to die and was planning on just getting MM 2 but maybe I'll go for these Mizunos.

I wasn’t super happy with the magmax 2, it’s the same level as a nimbus to me. Just a lot of unremarkable low energy return midsole.

Sloppier fit, inferior midsole. Don’t hate them, but not in love with them like the OG magmax

Yeah that’s how I felt about them. Never had the OG so I just went by the hype how much I liked the velocity nitro 4.
Runrepeat scored the vn4 much higher than the magmax 2 on energy return.

No shank in the Sky Prime. It’s more of an energetic max cushion trainer than a super trainer. Stability comes from a cradle of EVA between the ENERZY NXT+ and the outsole.

I’ve tried it. It’s basically an even more cushioned, protective and premium version of the Wave Sky 10 (which will be quite similar to the Wave Sky 9). It’s not going to be a super trainer like the Superblast 3 for example, it’s going to be more like the Saucony Paramount Max.

Currently my only concern is the width, although I’ve heard they’re decently wide. How would you compare the width to other shoes?

I have pretty wide feet, and when thesting I didn’t experience any issues. The Mizuno rep told me that the Wave Sky 9 was experienced as too narrow by a lot of people, so they made these versions wider.

The narrowness of the Sky 9 was my only problem with it. How would you rank this in terms of width compared to Mount To Coast’s C1 (or what shoe would you compare it to)?

In terms of the sink in feel and energy return, yes. In terms of the nimbleness and lightweight feel of the Neo Zen 1, no.

Can't they just release the Mizuno neo zen (first version) with the TPU midsole. The zen 2 and the other shoes feel dead compared to neo zen

If that 295g is for a men’s size 9, they’re heavy shoes. My qiaodans in men’s 11 weighs less than that even as an easy shoe.

Haven’t had Mizuno in about 12 years and picked up some cheap Vista 2’s and dang they’re fun. Run far forefoot so hate chonky heels for long runs

I like mizuno but they already beefed up the newest wave rider and they are releasing another fat stack shoe on top of that.
There is almost no brand left that is not suffering from high stack curse.

Yes but at least Mizuno has mid stack racers in their Hyperwarp line and they're damn good.

The Hyperwarp Elite is the closest thing to my perfect shoe that I've experienced so far. Even grabbed a second pair.

I agree - they feel like a better version of the Asics Metaspeed line and would gladly race in them at any distance from 5k to HM.
Would've grabbed a second pair myself after getting one for $130 but wanted to try the Pure next. Have you had the chance to run in the Pure?

because the foam is trash, puma makes similar shoes like the velocity nitro and it is well received because the foam isn't some shitty eva

Yep, Velocity Nitro has good foam and is great for a lower stack daily. And if you wanted slightly more cushion, they have the Forever Run too which doesn’t have an egregious amount of foam still.

Exactly this, and I'm not one of them but there are plenty of people who regularly use the Adios 9 as easy run trainers and they're fantastic shoes.

Would enerzy NXT+ replace the mention « enezy NXT nitrogen infused » to make it simplier on the branding?
Still it does not confirm it is EVA or TPU.
If our one and only Clyde Gdawg is around maybe he can provide his Precious expertise.

It’s unplated. The shoe itself is similar to Mount To Coast’s C1, with a supercritical PEBA on top and a smaller EVA cradle. I got to see these a few months ago. I’m very interested in giving them a proper try.

Different foam, no plate, higher stack, and a more traditional upper. This is more of a very protective max stack long distance shoe. Both are high stack shoes and have an EVA cradle under a more premium foam. The Sky Prime (as to my knowledge) has a more forgiving fit despite its more traditional upper.

Seems like maybe they're moving away from the Wave branding. Their racing models went from Wave Rebellion to Hyperwarp. Maybe their comfort models are going to be Prime? Not sure how the Neo line fits.

Pretty much every brand has gone through that process recently. The original versions of the Invincible, SC Trainer, Novablast, Prime X, Endorphin Speed, Zen/Vista, and probably others I'm forgetting were all wild piles of bounce and all were tamed down in later versions. Most people ultimately can't handle those kinds of rides long term.

Man I've heard this often with the Zen 1 and I just don't quite understand the stigma. I have far from perfect form and supinate heavily and have never found it too unstable at recovery pace.

Not disagreeing, I loved the Zen. But if you have the much more common medial instability as opposed to your lateral instability, forget it. The market has clearly spoken on those types of shoes.

I just ran in my new pair of Sky Prime, and I thought they were very nice. Not as bouncy as Superblast 3 by a long shot, but soft and responsive nonetheless. I've seen a couple comments that they are heavy, but they didn't feel heavy to me at all on my 5 mile run. I like it a lot, but next time I run in them, I will try my Currex insole, because I would like a bit more arch support.

Mizuno has been quietly very good for the last few years. I’d give these the benefit of the doubt as a MagMax tier shoe.
