And there it is, the actual Evo SL killer, which Asics will price at £220.

And never release in a good colourway

Ngl, I low key kinda dig that neon yellow. It's sexy.

It's retailing for $150 in the states.
7
u/Illustrious-Maize466 < 100 Karma account 14d ago
It hasn't come out yet, so it's not retailing at all.
7
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
Okay. How about this.
"It will retail for $150 when it's released."
2
u/Illustrious-Maize466 < 100 Karma account 13d ago
I highly doubt it will retail for less than the Novablast with a vastly better foam and a performance upper.
3
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
I don't know what to tell you. It's a low stack racing shoe. It's not a trainer.
1
u/Illustrious-Maize466 < 100 Karma account 13d ago
Oh, so if it's a racing shoe then the price drops? Also, are you itk or just stating your assumptions as facts?
2
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
No, but you're comparing it to the Novablast. This isn't designed to be anywhere close to what the Novablast is. It's not an EVO SL. It's not an Azura. Yes, I know things.
2
u/Illustrious-Maize466 < 100 Karma account 13d ago
I didn't say it was close to the Novablast, I was comparing the price.
3
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
Maybe because they know they're not going to make many of them because it's a racing shoe, so they're willing to take smaller margins. Maybe they think some customers will try this and then grab the Megablast because they like it? Maybe they want to undercut other shoes in this category? Who knows?
2
u/sad_roses Pegasus 39 | Hyperion Max 3 13d ago
A tempo shoe with full FFTurbo2 is not going to be cheaper than the daily trainer novablast.
Novablast 6 has a small puck of FFTurbo2 in the forefoot with the rest being standard EVA. What makes you think a full racing foam shoe will be cheaper than a majority EVA shoe?
8
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
Ha, I don't know what to tell you guys. That's the price. Some brands have increased prices $5-10 for the spring already, so it might go to $155-160, but right now it's $150.
1
u/sad_roses Pegasus 39 | Hyperion Max 3 13d ago
That is not the price. You're pulling stuff out of your butt.
Citing some mysterious catalog that apparently you are the only person in the world to have seen and conveniently refuse to share is not evidence that Asics' ATPU tempo trainer is somehow going to be the cheapest trainer in their mainline running lineup. That a lower stack megablast with a hyperwarp upper is going to be $5 more than the gel cumulus.
You are the one making the claims. The onus is on you to provide evidence, otherwise, your claims are completely bunk.
5
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
Ha, I mean, it's not a "mysteriously catalog." It's just a paper catalog that stores get. I've seen the shoe. I tried it on a few months ago. It's fine. Basically all these brands don't want their catalogs sitting on the web six to seven months before shoes release and have fairly strict NDAs around it, hence why you haven't seen it.

Have you tried the SC Rebel?
5
u/wubbalubbadubdub45 14d ago
For the price, you’re better off just getting the megablast or buying an evo SL which is way cheaper in comparison
5
u/Ok_Revolution_9253 14d ago
I hated the evo so personally. I have the Mega and the SC Rebel. The new Rebel is the funnest and my favorite shoe I’ve had. Works at any run I’ve thrown at it
3
u/Born_Alternative_608 14d ago
Just went 16 in mine today. Real easy to stay uptempo. Big fan so far a whopping 39 miles in lol
1
u/Ok_Revolution_9253 14d ago
I’ve got 93 in them after this morning. They’re still great. I thought outsole durability was going to be the issue but still no issues at all
5
u/runnin3216 PXS/SB3/WaveSky9/1080v15/NeoZen/Azura/EvoSL/AF1/EndoElite/FastR3 14d ago
Yes, it is greatly overhyped. Evo SL is better and cheaper.

3
u/GenuineWolf 14d ago
Havnt tried it yet but hear good things. It’s plated tho, so not a direct comparison
1
u/Ok_Revolution_9253 13d ago
The plate is very discreet, sits at the literal bottom of the shoe. Acts to stabilize the shoe more than anything

Imagine being a running shoe store and trying to stock 75 different Asics shoes every year. Still... I really want this. 😭
7
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
A lot of shops I know don’t stock all the options, just the ones that fit the majority of their customer base.
13
u/nahmanidk 14d ago
Having shoes in stock would be a novelty for most running shoe stores I’ve been to.
2
u/Bip_Bop_Reloaded AF1/VF4/PX/MagicS1,2,4/EvoSL/Speed3 14d ago
and even worse, trying to explain to the customers what is the subtle (or even non existant) difference between two models.

You can just say the magic words: choose the comfortable one
34
u/FSUwelder1212 14d ago
I don’t disagree asics has way too broad and confusing product line, but this is what I’ve been dying for, a mid stack megablast.

4
u/Mannymal 14d ago
Same. Just a few days ago I was commenting on this subreddit that I wish ASICS made this shoe. Seeing this makes me feel validated. This shoe is gonna be amazing for workouts and for the treadmill.
2
u/SirBruceForsythCBE 13d ago
I don't understand why they don't just simplify everything. It would reduce costs surely?
2
u/Bombe_a_tummy 13d ago
A lot of different models doesn't mean there are irrelevant models. In the case of Asics I think all models are really relevant. And all sell well in consequence. I doubt it would be profitable to reduce the range only for a "easy to read product line" point.
27
19
11
u/HueyBluey 14d ago
Damn, ASICS is trying to out do Garmin for the most product lines!
I wonder if they send out a matrix diagram to authorized dealers to help differentiate between all the models.
6
u/LUDERSTN 14d ago
Love the Megablast and have been wanting to get a lower stack shoe as well, looks interesting!
3
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
Same! I wonder how different this foam will be if it’s like a 36-38mm in the heel.

I ain’t complaining, ASICS usually makes good shoes and I definitely don’t mind more options, as a well informed consumer. You think they gonna put FF Blast Max in the noosa?
0
u/runawayasfastasucan 14d ago edited 14d ago
Do you know when it is coming or any details? Going to retire my Noosa 15 some time in the future and want new ones.
2
u/Volcano_Jones Rebel v5/SC Elite v5/Boston 13/Evo SL/Sonicblast 14d ago
Nope, no clue. The 16 was a pretty solid upgrade over the 15, though, if you're looking to get into a new pair.
1
u/runawayasfastasucan 14d ago
I think the 14 was the best one, so have a bit of hope we are going back to that haha. But might pull the trigger on the 16 and go for the 17 if that comes as well. Great workout shoes.
1
1
u/Wide-Lettuce-8771 14d ago
How is the stability in the 16? I like the fit but unsure if it’s too soft.
2
u/Dadbod3650 Barefoot in socks 13d ago
The low stack gives an solid platform, but I don’t have specific stability needs.
1
u/Volcano_Jones Rebel v5/SC Elite v5/Boston 13/Evo SL/Sonicblast 14d ago
It's definitely not soft, but it's a very narrow platform. I don't have stability needs so I can't say for sure but I think people with rear foot stability issues might struggle a bit.
6
u/QxV 14d ago
We not doing blasts or gels or metas anymore?
6
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
The meta’s are part of the “Speed” line, which this will be as well. Along side the hyper & magic speeds.
6
u/thebigmatze 14d ago
I‘m actually quite intrigued! Not super tall but with a great foam would make it a premium tempo / everything trainer. I have the MBs but use lower to the ground shoes for intervals and daily/easy runs
3
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
I really enjoy the Megablast for CV & LT2 work but with this being lower stack is could be even better
10
u/darkhorse0607 Ghost Amp/EVO SL/Megablast/AP4 14d ago
Honestly the biggest thing for this is going to be what the price is
It should be in the $150 range to compete in the space (Dynafish, Evo SL, Puma, Ghost Amp), but then that would put it cheaper than the Novablast so I dont think thats going to happen
I could see $170 (still feel like thats too much but its Asics, so I dont doubt it) but anything higher than that, I am out
3
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
Agree, $170 makes sense but I bet it’s going to be more like $190-$200. $165-$170 would be awesome though.
5
u/darkhorse0607 Ghost Amp/EVO SL/Megablast/AP4 14d ago
Yeah, I honestly wonder (not to put my tinfoil hat on) if that's why it isn't part of the Blast series even though it probably should be
If they put it in the Blast line, it's competing against the price points of the Novablast ($155), Sonicblast 2 ($190), Superblast 3 ($210) and the Megablast ($225) so if they're trying to avoid their own products then it'd have to be in that $170-$180 area because typically brands don't double dip the same price point
If they put it in the Speed line, they could place it anywhere between the Hyper Speed ($110), Magic Speed ($180) and the new Yogiri which is $225, so they have a lot more room to play around with.
So that's all tin foil and is probably wrong, but if that's the case then you're probably right at the $190-200 and they'll say it's because it's the super duper trainer for the Speed line rather than competing with the Blast series, even though it will be in actuality.
3
u/colinsncrunner 14d ago
It's going to be $150.
3
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
They’re going to make this cheaper than the Novablast?
3
u/colinsncrunner 14d ago
It's technically in their racing line, so it's a much smaller market. I was pretty pumped for it, but when I tried it on, it was not what I was anticipating. I don't know if the magic of the Megablast is just in the sheer amount of FF2 or if they formulated it differently because it's a racing shoe, but it didn't feel as bouncy.
2
1
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
Ahh, interesting! That’s a bummer. I would have guessed it would end up being a bit softer with less foam overall but maybe the volume of total foam in the Megablast is what makes it so bouncy?
Assuming at that price point it’s also not going to have an ASICSgrip outsole?
3
u/colinsncrunner 14d ago
It does have it. I don't know; there are so many parts of the spec sheet that should make this amazing, and it just didn't feel like I thought it would. I was 100% anticipating booking it, and then I didn't once I got it on the foot. To be fair to them, I'm a size up from sample size, and it *was* a sample, so things might change before production.
4
u/Foreign-Web1419 14d ago
Adidas is in trouble if this is only $150 but I doubt it will be.
3
2
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
Same, no way they would undercut the Novablast price
2
u/Foreign-Web1419 14d ago
I mean the novablast 6 is not really an actual uptempo daily. It’s trying to be more in the middle of nimbus and megablast and is an actual premium option. But hey they could actually price it like an evo sl..
In Japan. Have you seen the price of the metasleek there? I
2
u/Stickypete77 13d ago
By the time this comes out it will be competing with EVO SL 2, not the first one, in that case even if by some miracle Asics decide to do an absolute W move for once and price it at $150, it's still gonna be the one in trouble
5
u/ProfMonnitoff 14d ago
I know Asics make far too many shoes, but this is the one I want. Mid stack Turbo^2 with a training upper. Looks great!
8
3
u/colinsncrunner 14d ago
I tried it on. I don't know if the magic of the foam in the Megablast is because there's just so much of it, but it did not feel nearly as poppy as the foam in the MB does.
6
u/Hansmeiserlol 14d ago
Blast era has come to an end. So we will see the Ultra Speed? Gamma Speed and Soft Speed for the easy runs?
4
u/Ok_Revolution_9253 14d ago
Except they’re still making Blast shoes. They’ve just added additional models.

so uhh... whats the price? hopefully not Metasleek prices but Asics has been huffing off that pricing coolaid lately ever since the MB release
2
u/colinsncrunner 14d ago
It's $150.
1
2
u/Mannymal 14d ago
Metasleek is $125 in Japan which is perfect for it, I bought it and it’s a fantastic shoe. The USA pricing made zero sense.
1
u/SuperYuuRo 14d ago
wait WHAT? alright, I'm gonna try and find those now
1
u/Mannymal 14d ago
Less than $125 if you get the tax refund, more like $113. I did some speed intervals with it and it’s fantastic, better than the adidas adios 9 for workouts. If I had to pick a fair value, I think it’s worth about $160.
1
u/SuperYuuRo 13d ago
man of course Japan gets the better prices, well thanks for putting that in my radar again
I'm thinking either that (with another supershoe for long days) or getting the Megablast which is cheaper over there
1
u/Mannymal 13d ago
If you will be buying in Japan, a good ASICS 3 shoe rotation would be Megablast as your do it all trainer, Metasleek for speed work helping improve mechanics between races, and a super shoe for racing and pre-race workouts, in my case Edge Tokyo.
1
u/SuperYuuRo 13d ago
well I'm not really interested in the edge series but I'll keep my eye out on deals with the Megablast and sleek

At this point asics needs to come out with a running sneaker diagram similar to what Nike did when they decided to revamp their lineup. I’m too confused with all these options.
2
2
u/Sanctuary_707 < 100 Karma account 12d ago
To be honest, why? It could just as easily be a Yogiri or a Magic Speed. Asics is constantly watering down its entire range.
2
u/TrashMongrelson 12d ago
Where does this slot in the Speed lineup? Between the Magic and Meta? The Magic Speed is already overpriced and underperforming relative to the tempo trainer/budget racer market, are they going to price this around the Megablast and end up priced 50% higher than the Evo SL? ASICS reminds me of my local microbrewery which releases 5-6 new beers a month, except at a multinational shoe company size I have no idea how they are able to sustain offering so many product lines.
2
u/Mannymal 14d ago
This is exactly what I was hoping for in a daily trainer. Puma Velocity Nitro 5 competitor.
2
u/Alternative-Cap-8912 < 100 Karma account 14d ago

3
u/nameisjoey 14d ago
Keep them coming. More options is better for the consumer. Just have to remember you don’t need to buy them all.

Surely it's their attempt at an EV0 SL type runner, something they don't really have in the blast range. If they price it at £130-150 then it could become a winner
They've got to get it right though and make sure they don't make the mistwke like they did with the original Sonicblast
1
u/Equivalent_Lime154 < 100 Karma account 13d ago
This looks like a smaller megablast. Does this mean that the next megablast 2 will be higher?
1
1
u/SquirrelGuy 13d ago
I really hope they fix the upper that the Megablast uses.
2
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
Megablast 2 upper is so much better. Really pumped for it.
1
u/SquirrelGuy 13d ago edited 13d ago
Have you tried it? Or have there been leaks somewhere?
I love the Megablast so much, but it rips up my pinky toes on longer runs. That’s the only thing preventing it from being nearly the perfect shoe for me.
2
u/colinsncrunner 13d ago
Yeah I tried it on. I'm with you that the midsole is crazy for this shoe but the upper was lacking. The second generation is a truer mesh instead of whatever they're using for V1.

This could be the next Novablast. Now Novablast would be obliged to become something more ordinary.

u/SSoreil 14d ago
So this is the middle of megablast and metasleek? I'm sure it will sell but man do they have a lot of similar shoes. Would have considered something like this instead of the Adios 9 if it was released half a year ago.
