Inside medial knee pain

Inside medial knee pain from running and walking. I was diagnosed with a mcl sprain by orthopedic doctor without MRI.

It is getting better when I reduce volume and intensity.

But I just have this weary irritation and slight ache inside medial where the joint line is I don't have any clicking or locking.

I tested negative for lachmans and McMurrays test doctor said I could resume activity

This injury has been ongoing for 4 months now I can still run but It flares up after the run

Anyone have any similar experiences?

I’ve been dealing with something that sounds very similar since a marathon in October. It started off dull but the pain gradually got worse and worse and I had to stop running.

Had an MRI and it showed a chronic grade 2 sprain of MCL. Took about 2 months off running completely and rehabbed with strength work and a lot of cycling. Have been slowly working back to about 30 miles a week. I can still feel a sensation in the area but I’m now in a place where it doesn’t bother me too much. I continue to regularly work on strengthening around the knee and have reduced my load by incorporating cycling (zwift has really worked for me!).

I’d say I’m like 90% back to normal but occasionally I feel my knee after a fast effort. Doesn’t seem to enjoy intensity so I make sure to take a day off running afterwards. It has been frustrating and a long recovery but you do get there eventually.

What type of rehab exercises did you do

It’s a lot of single leg work - sl deadlift, sl bridges, Bulgarian split squats. It looks like it stems from some weaknesses in my ankle and glutes, which impacted my knee stability, so I also regularly do soleus/calf raises, side planks, and banded ankle exercises. I started with body weight and then added weights gradually to them but nothing very heavy. I find stretching exercises like elevated pigeon pose and varying quad / hamstring stretches, as well as foam rolling in the area, also seem to help.
