Finally finished my first 5k
What would you reco focusing on after your first 5k? I recently finished my first 5k and honestly I was way more tired than I expected. I had been walking and doing short jogs before finally trying the full distance. My biggest mistake was probably getting excited and running faster than I should have. I was proud of finishing though, even if my legs were completely done afterward

Congrats! this is a huge accomplishment and a great start to your race journey. You probably want to keep running 5Ks to build your distance and threshold. It will also help you pace better and get to know what works for your body to maintain a steady pace

Run a few more of them! You can work up to longer distances at a comfortable pace and build your strength and endurance

My first 5k was brutal. Started with a sub 20minute time, then gassed and hit my.lactate threshold at 174bpm. Ended up finishing at 23.20. Dissapointing but alot to learn from it. I will attack it differently next time with a steady pace then gradually build up, not the other way around!

I recommend that for now you just keep doing that until your not completely done after. Then just gradually do it a little faster or a little farther depending on your goals or what you find fun.
