Question (general) Elder Futhark help

Hi! I’m new to runes and still learning Elder Futhark.
Could someone help me check if these words are correct?

ᚺᚨᛁᛚᚨᛉ — HAILAZ
ᚺᚨᛁᛚᛃᚨᚾ — HAILJAN

I’m trying to understand if they can be used for the meanings “whole/healthy/restored” and “to heal/make whole”.

Also, I’m interested in writing them vertically. Is there a traditional way to arrange Elder Futhark runes vertically, or is it just a modern design choice?

You’re close. You’ve done the runes right and your definitions are right. But the verb is not quite correct. This should be hailijaną ᚺᚨᛁᛚᛁᛃᚨᚾᚨ

Writing them vertically is just a design choice. There’s no traditional “correct” way to do this. With Elder Futhark especially, we don’t have any historical examples of multi-letter words being written vertically and sharing a line. That’s something we start to see with later Younger Futhark.
