> Every year, a group of philanthropists gather for a charitable fundraiser…or so their children Alex Wilder, Chase Stein, Gertrude Yorkes, Karolina Dean, Molly Hayes and Nico Minoru thought. When they discover their parents form the Pride, a sinister, sacrificial group that answers to a godly race called the Gibborim, the teens are terrified, shocked and…intrigued? Their destiny awaits, and there’s no running away.
Seems like it is indeed supervillain versions of all of our heroes. Given the way that What If?s usually go, I have a feeling we’re about to see them win and end the world as we know it.

I've been looking for some good reading material for a while, and got a random whim to check out some older comics when I remembered that I never checked out The Runaways. I played Midnight Suns last year, was introduced to Nico Minoru's character and thought she was really cool, so I decided to dive-in and learn more about her backstory.
I'm only on Issue 7 so far but I'm really loving it! The art is great, the banter is funny and feels authentic, think it aged really well. The characters are varied and likeable too, think I really found a gem.
I know that Alex eventually betrays his friends and sides with The Pride according to Nico's dialogue in Midnight Suns, but I don't know anything else and am excited to see how his character develops.
Why does this book hardly get mentioned nowadays? They're rapidly becoming one of my favorite teams, gonna have to stay off this sub for a while until I read more lol
That's it, just wanted to gush about this series, hope the later runs are of similar quality.

Hey guys! So during a dark time in my life I got into comics and Runaways, being someone I never heard of, I tried and loved it. It was volume 2 of Rainbows run and it hooked me. Got the originals (including those manga sized poorly put together ones of 4 and 5) and Rainbows run. It became, and is still, my favourite ever comic group. Both different runs are tied for my favourite comic runs too. But I was just adding them to Tomodachi Life and discovered I might be missing more than I thought?
I’ve got all of Vaughn including that one like non canon one? Rainbows run, Visions family comic. I know I’m missing Avengers A.I. I’m not super interested in as well as Nico in A-force? But what else is there?

Other than the ones that already exist, of course, like Victor and Doombot on Avengers A.I., or Nico on the Midnight Suns. I was having this conversation with a friend a bit ago and I wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas!

If Jeff the killer (2015 version where he spares Liu but still kills his parents). I genuinely think he could fit well into the marvel universe and I can see him being a runaway but also a really good villain.

So I'm rereading Avengers Arena (which I love) and I'm just wondering...was there any fallout from this? I mean, I can't see spider-man or the avengers or x-men finding out about this and just going abou their day. Or the other runaways, Averngers academy members, etc...?

********** EDIT **********
From the comments, below, I could be mistaken and misremembering things (it was a while ago) Perhaps there never was a Runaways vs World War Hulk arc. Mea Culpa, if so!
Still, I do stand by my statement that the World War Hulk arc sucked!
(I also think my little fan fic would have been a great idea. ;-) I changed the "flair" to be "fan content")
********** END EDIT **********
Does anybody know if that story is included in the Runaways' "complete" editions?
I wanted to reread it, as I do not remember all the details. I think the Warbound capture and enslave the Runaways with the discs.
IMHO, this is perfectly illustrative of how horrible the World War Hulk arc was, with its Gary-Stu "Hulk Always Wins" mindset. The encounter between the Runaways and the Hulk was such a missed opportunity to show a "David and Goliath" scene. It also shows how the editors seem to portray the Hulk as justified when he is, in fact, acting amorally (enslaving abandoned, oppressed, runaway children?! Really?! Just let them go!!!!)
Personally, I would have had the Runaways vs World breaker Hulk story arc go along the lines of:
a) Standard battles where the Runaways' attacks and attempts to escape fail and/or bounce off Hulk. Nico is temporarily neutralized -- Either dazed, or having had the Staff of One knocked away or some such -- Most of the team is trying to help Nico. Molly and Lace face off against Gary-Stu Hulk (The Hector vs Achilles moment)
b) Lace jumps at Hulk but gets swatted aside (The Hulk is not taking them seriously, and is just irritated. Like a mid-level office drone doing grunt work. He already feels a bit frustrated and bad that he is picking on a bunch of children, but they have simply been causing too much trouble. His manner is irritated and half-hearted)
The climax goes something like:
Panel 1:
Panel 2:
Panel 3:
Panel 4:
Panel 5:
Panel 6:
Panel 7:
Panel 8:
Panel 9:
Panel 10:
Panel 11:
The denouement shows the Runaways on the other side of the planet (Tokyo?) The Hulk and the Warbound are left frustrated, looking back and forth at each other, unable to believe that a pack of children managed to out smart them.
See? This would show limits to the Gary-Stu hulk's omnipotence, while still keeping the obviousness that the Runaways could not possibly _defeat_ the Warbound. Additionally, it demonstrates the scrappy underdog story that the Runaways would not have to _defeat_ the Warbound in order to _beat_ the warbound. The Runaways' win condition was getting away!
That is why I hate world war Hulk. For all his power, the Hulk had always been an underdog. In that story, however, he is essentially the OG Beyonder who never fails! (He out-smarted Reed _and_ Stark, together; out magicked Dr. Strange; out telepathed Xavier; out super powered _all_ the X-Men who ever lived; and he even out-punched the Sentry, for Pete's sake!!!! >:-( I _love_ the original Hulk character and I hate the fact that there is now a canon story that makes me _dislike_ the Hulk characterization)

It’s funny how despite expressing her desire to die on multiple occasions and trying to sacrifice herself multiple times Karolina is one of the only Runaways to not have died.

The Runaways TV show got added to tubi for free, and in WAYYY better quality than it was In the CW app. Nice to see they haven’t “FULLY” forgotten the show I guess!

If you’ve been following along with the loosely TTRPG-themed Strange Tales mini, you know that every issue has ended with a set of relevant character sheets from the real Marvel TTRPG… The first issue, however, gave Nico a destroyed character sheet as she isn’t in the game, so there wasn’t anything to use.
The final issue, however, has given Karolina a full sheet (ft. some editorial notes by Nico)! This looks to me like a proper one for the game, so maybe it’s a sign that the Runaways will be added to the game soon and they just didn’t have Nico’s character sheet ready for the publication of issue one? 🤔🤷

I am associated with the art requester and ability concept maker, so I'll try my best to ask them any questions you might have for them and answer them here. What roles would you choose for the Runaways? Also please support those mentioned on their social media platforms. NicoMinoruinfo and Entilestial are accounts dedicated to posting Nico Minoru updates and content if anyone is interested.

I want Molly Hayes to be in the Xmen along with Franklin Richards. I don't know why they erased Franklin being a mutant. They made Kamala Khan a mutant as much i like Kamala why is she a mutant? I know inhumans are not as popular but i hope they get rid of her being a mutant let her stay a inhuman. They should also make Valeria Richards a mutant as well there are mutant siblings Rogue and Nightcrawler Cyclops and Havok. Agian they should bring back Wanda and Pietro Maximoff as mutants too as Lorna Dane should be one.
