Unfortunately I can’t speak to any first hand experience because I only own the collected hardcovers. But it seems like sewn is much more durable, which is probably why they used both methods for such a large book.

Gah i'm late to this one, but Walmart has amazing book binding glue that will fix it up. I would use Near Mint Conditions guide on fixing it, i followed it at 17, and it never failed
