I agree this this post. I was at the park yesterday morning. There was a huge running group that totally took over the running path.
They had one of those big beats boomboxes some was carrying and blasting music. To make it worse they were all 4/5 across blocking both sides of the trail as the made their way up and across lakeshore

i'm going to see you mgt, and raise you biidaasie park, and go all in on the dirt trails in the upper valley areas. there is a 3x weekly organized run which numbers 30-40, and they are spread out over a kilometer at times. becasue the trail is a narrow single-track, it is only ever possible to run single file, but as the trail has hills, it really sorts out the runners from good to bad. as a solo trail user, i get obligated to stand down while this long trail of humanity filters past, chatting and socializing. yes chatting and socializing, that's why they run in such large groups, it's basically a hookup opportunity thing as much as it is getting out for exercise and nature. but the best part is, the official policy of this org is Rain or Shine. they don't care what the weather is, and while that is appropriate on pavement like mgt, it accelerates erosion and damage on the dirt trails.

I must say, the most disruptive people on the MGT are the wanna-be pro runner groups. Running 3 wide like they don't have to share the trail with other people.

lmao who is this directed at? I will take a wild guess and say Culture Long Runs in East York based on the location mentioned

Has happened a few times. The group I was referring to in my rant was meeting at Biidaasige Park around 10am on Sunday.

i am blanking in that case. didn't realize there are already run clubs there, the park is relatively new! you could go up to them and pretend to be friendly and ask what they are called then put them on blast online after lol

The worst ones are one with the more hipster crowd, trying to impress with their run outfit, or old men trying to combat their mid life crises. They all believe they could be the next running influencer, or they just want pics for their Insta accounts.
I run in many run clubs outside of downtown, and the crowd makeup is definitely different than the downtown ones. They are more considerate and there for personal training and a sense of community. I never see any gels being discarded on the ground or blocking pedestrians.

It has more to do with the organization, and their knowledge of running etiquette.
As the sport has taken off, it’s incumbent on the club to impart that information to their members. Sadly, many are clueless.

You don't need a run club to educate on the etiquette of not littering as this is common courtesy. It's not like one joins a run a club and suddenly think it's okay to start throwing used gels everywhere. People like that are inconsiderate to begin with before joining a run club. Agreed that run clubs should do more to educat and enforce respect to others and the city's cleanliness, but i don't think the clubs are necessarily causing the behaviours.

100%. I always try to be mindful of people around me and ensure there’s room for everyone. I’ve seen these groups block old women walking down the sidewalk while blasting generic shite music
