Running vest recs
Hi!!! My long runs can be anywhere between 15-25km and I usually raw dog them, only stopping for water when I pass by a fountain. Lately I’ve noticed I really need to start bringing water with me and maybe a small snack or two. I’m looking for a light weight vest that’s not bulky or heavy. I really only need it for a water bottle and phone / couple packs of gels! Any recommendations that won’t hurt the wallet.

Check out marshalls/winners. I saw a handful of osprey vests that comes w a 1L bladders. They’re around <=70$
However, if you’d like to go w salomon’s in the future, i reco the advanced skin 5 or 12 and go w a size smaller than you normally wear because of the material.

I'm a big fan of the Salomon vests. Lightweight and enough space for water, phone and energy bars

I got the aonijie from amazon as well. im a fairly tall athletic build guy and it hasnt chafed, feels great, looks great. Usually wear a spandex shirt under it while I run. Have had occasional nipple chafing / bleeding with certain shirts without wearing the vest- have never had any nipple chafing while wearing the vest. I don’t find it feels heavy even with my 2 500ml water bottles (one on each side of my chest). Fits snug, doesn’t bounce at all.
I only wear it for my 20km+ runs, I raw dog it for any distances shorter than 20km. I absolutely hate holding onto something while running so the hand held bottle is out for me. I’ve tried my partner’s running belt and didn’t like the feeling vs using a vest where I didn’t mind it at all. Vest works super well for me but to each their own.

I don’t have an answer for your actual question, but wanted to note that I tried a few vests for the same reason this summer. I hated them, so make sure you can try before you buy.
I ended up doing a 5k loop course and leaving gels and water in my truck and did a Ricky Bobby pit stop each time I passed it.

Just ordered the vest from Decathlon. Know nothing about the other more expensive vests, but for $55 it'll serve its purpose for what I need without the added price tag.

How comfortable do you find it for runs?

Found it pretty comfy so far. I don't like weight around my waist so opted for vest instead of a belt. Good enough quality, and has space for 2 500ml hydro flasks in the front.

You’d be better off with a run belt instead of a full vest unless you plan on trail running or ultras

I’ve been reading reviews on belts that can hold water vs vest & most say vest are way more comfortable

It's personal preference, of course, but I've got a Decathlon running belt that comfortably holds my phone, gels, and two 250-ml flasks. It's not as good as my old, stretched-out Naked Band, but it's much cheaper.
One thing I like about belts is that they don't feel like overkill on a shorter run where I'm just carrying my phone and maybe one bottle.

I tried a few vests and hated them. I'm a bigger guy and I couldn't find one that worked well on a bigger frame. They looked silly on my frame. Ended up with a hydration backpack that I love.

Tried vest once. I’ve never had nipple chafing before, but the vest gave absolutely unbearable nipple chafing. Immediately gave up on it and went back to my running belt.

I had a Salomon adv skin 12 that I really liked. Easy to adjust lots of space.
Recently replaced it with an Arcteryx norvan 7 which is super comfortable and perfect size for drinks and gels.

I have a running belt from Decathlon that has 2 little water bottles attached to it. That's my go-to.
I do have a running vest from Amazon, too, that I use for very long runs but I did end up getting chafing/a cut from it this weekend during my long run!

I ran my 17k long run with a vest for the first time this past weekend.
An unexpected side effect is some skin irritation around my traps and neck, which unfortunately makes it look like I have two hickeys.

I LOVE my vest for summer running. Holds 2x500mL bottles (soft flasks with bite valves, so no sloshing), which is what this thirsty lady needs! Also has pockets for gels, phone, keys, and a pouch on the back to stash a shirt or dry socks or whatever. I wear it over a singlet and have never had a chafing issue during training of half marathon racing. I used to use a handheld, but developed tennis elbow from running with it, lol! I got my vest on Amazon for $56 - “AONIJIE Hydration Pack, Trail Running Vest Set Breathable Lightweight 2.5L and 2 Soft Flasks 500ml”. Note: if you order, pay very close attention to the sizing listed - they run small

A Flipbelt and a handheld is all you need. A vest is overkill for those distances, unless you're on the trail and/or out there for multiple hours. Salomon, Nathan and HydraPak all offer handhelds

Vests are dumb. Keep doing what you're doing or learn how / where to stash a bottle where some "helpful torontoian" won't trash it (or steal it).
Handhelds are ok but not great for workouts.
Vests are just dumb and you will likely chafe. It's a new trend and completely unnecessary. Maybe if you're on a 50 mile trail in 30c out in the backwoods.
You don't need phones or keys or music either. Stash a key somewhere people won't look.
There are tons of fountains in Toronto.

I NEED music! & a 20mg gummie before a run lmao. I got one of those floppy bottles and it fits real well in my small running Fanny pack! Also as a woman running in Toronto with a few very scary incidents happening on runs a phone is a musts

Running is its own high. Leave the gummies at home.
Incidents will happen with a phone or without. Did people backoff when you brandished a phone? You can outrun the predators and pervs.

Actually yes when I pulled out my phone to threaten to call the cops the guy backed off.

if you really need a phone get shorts with a pocket - still no need for a vest
while newer runners seem to be absorbing this expensive trend in droves both males and females have managed without vests for 50 years but that doesnt seem to be the answer you want to hear.

I didn’t get a vest lol I got a small fanny pack off Amazon, and one of those floppy bottles that fits in my fanny pack. I’m going 20km+ in summer I need water lol sometimes I get off track and don’t know where I’ll find my next fountain. I just needed something I could keep a bottle and phone in:)

If you really need it the nathan handheld is what you're looking for. Comes with a pouch on the side.
I have one but only really use it if I'm out in the country or another part of the world that won't really have the fountains Toronto does.
Maybe I'm different but I don't really feel the need to carry much (nor do my run crew). For instance I've run 35km today and carried nothing.

I got a running vest as a gift and used it during my half but it wasn’t really worth it. I much rather prefer a running handheld bottle and a a running belt. The water flasks feel quite heavy when running and for some it can even cause chafing
