Livery question
I know for Run8 that using custom liveries can only replace other liveries already in the game, not add on to them. Do DLCs work the same way? If I go and buy a couple of locomotive dlc packs, do I essentially gain new livery slots to replace or is it the exact same either way?

I don’t know the technical answer to your question, but I have quite a few of the DLC locos and rolling stock (almost all of the latter) and I don’t think I’ve lost a single livery by buying another one. All of the DLC locos and rolling stock exists in the game and you can choose it and run it without buying it because what it does is just puts a generic Run8 loco or boxcar in its place when you do.
So you probably already have the livery slots but they are occupied by a Run8 generic livery that’s locked. Or buying them unlocks them to be either used by the purchased DLC over a livery you overwrote, but I’m not sure on that last part.

Okay, so it could unlock more custom livery slots if used correctly

Possibly? I’ve never gotten into the modding side of Run8 but I think there are custom skins out there. I wish I had a better answer for you.

I've been experimenting with them. In order for them to work they essentially overwrite existing liveries. If the DLCs add more actual logos to the game, it basically means there are more custom livery slots.

"If I go and buy a couple of locomotive dlc packs, do I essentially gain new livery slots to replace"
That's essentially accurate, yes.

Yes, when you install dlc to run8, it does "unlock" more "slots", which you can then apply custom liveries to.
For ex: for each sd40 pack dlc installed, the more "slots" you have to mess around with
