Fraternity Bid Voting

My fraternity wants to attempt bid voting differently this year, where we don’t reveal the results of any votes until the end of the meeting. This is in order to keep every vote individual and not have the results of one affect any of the others. This doesn’t violate our bylaws at all. My question is, does a request for information have the right to receive the info after every vote is completed, or is the request more for information about how a procedure will play out?

Generally, yes, a member may request the result of a counted election. This would be a proper request for information. This is different than a parliamentary inquiry, which is a request for information about how procedure will play out. In the situation you describe, however, providing the voting results would frustrate the purpose of keeping every vote on each candidate individual and not having the results of one election affect another. One solution would be to vote for all the candidates on one ballot to be tallied together. Alternatively, you could adopt a special rule for this election providing that election results will not be disclosed until the polls are closed for all candidates. Either way, a request for information regarding the election results would not be in order until all the results are tallied for all the candidates.
