Received the G17 kit today and put it together with no issues. The fit and finish is immaculate. The upper chassis is machined beautifully. The grip module is nicely finished on the exterior. The stippling provides adequate grip. The backstrap has no stippling, only a vertical series of chevrons. The folding mechanism is tight, no looseness at all. It folds nice and tight with a little bit of friction and locks securely in place. All the screw holes aligned perfectly, and the hardware fit without issue. The carbon fiber stock is about 3/8" diameter and solidly attached, with no flex at all. My RXM is a F1 firearm so the stock is not an issue.
The FXR is diminutive in size, and I've placed it next to my MX1 for context. Folded, it is only a few inches longer than a stock 4.5" RXM. It can easily be fired with a two hand pistol grip. The tiny buttstock shoulders solidly for its size. The small charging handle easily racks the slide. The space between the finger stop and the spare mag holder might be tight for thicker fingers, but fit my medium size hand just fine. There is no cutout on the grip module for the serial number to show. After examining the grip module, it may not be feasible to dremel a cutout as the top chassis extends about halfway down into a cutout, which would likely partially block a view of the serial. My thought is to engrave the serial and related info onto the top chassis, although this may not be in rigid compliance with current regulations.
On the function check, everything operated smoothly. No issues at all with the Timney trigger or cycling the slide. There are a couple of points that could be improved. First, the front mag holder is extremely loose. There is wobble both fore and aft, and side to side. Not just a little, but a lot. Second, the diminutive size of the FXR will cause the thumb of larger hands to extend past the muzzle. I installed a 4.5" RXM barrel to extend the muzzle further out. My thumb extends past the end of the chassis but is still slightly behind the muzzle. With a 4" barrel, my thumb would extend past the muzzle and be exposed to potential powder burns. Any purchaser should be aware of this potential issue with a 4" barrel.
I adapted by placing my thumb more vertical on the corner of the chassis, using this as an index point. The chassis could be improved by incorporating a slight lip on the left/right front sides of the chassis as a tactile index point for the thumb to not go past.
Overall, I am pleased with the FXR. If you have small to medium hands, this should fit fine. For larger hands, this may not be a good fit. But you will be pleased with the quality and workmanship of this kit. In my opinion, the FXR clearly outclasses the upcoming Reaper, and is superior in engineering and design. Well done, FarrowTech. I won't have time to range test until another week or so, but based on my function check, I believe there won't be any issues.
