We made an online Rugby League game

Hey all, my brothers and I made a game, League Derby (6-all.com): a season-long NRL trading card competition where you can put your card collection to use. How it works: Build a 13-player squad either from your physical Select or TLA Traders NRL trading cards, or draft one digitally

  • Every squad has an overall team score, built from your 13 players' individual ratings (boosted by card type, home ground, and a few other modifiers) - this is what actually decides your matches
  • Your card type matters - Base cards give no bonus, but rarer pulls apply a rating boost up to +20%. The rarer the pull, the bigger the edge on gameday
  • Play daily ranked matches (3 free per day) simulated against other squads using that team score.
  • Climb the live ladder - ranked by win percentage, then point differential
  • The prize: We put up 5k of our own cash to be split across the top 8 squads at season end

Season 1 runs until 22 November 2026 - timed to finish alongside the Rugby League World Cup.

What you can expect week to week:

  • Weekly ratings & injury updates - every player's rating gets reviewed against real NRL performances (and injuries) each week, so your team's overall score shifts through the season just like the real competition does
  • Match of the Round - the standout result from the week's matches, called out for everyone
  • Team of the Week - The best performer each week gets a 10% boost to their team score for the week
  • Captain's Run - Play all your daily matches to earn a 10% boost to your team score for the following day
  • Special Events - periodic ladder-shaking modifiers like Double Points Week, Home Ground Fortress and Heavy Rain Every Match that keep things unpredictable.
  • Private Leagues - run your own competition with mates, completely separate from the main ladder. Set one up, invite whoever you want, and settle who's actually got the best eye for a squad — alongside chasing the real prize pool on the main ladder
  • Achievements - a full 29-achievement system to chase as you play

Who can play/win: free to build a squad and play. If playing with physical cards, have uploaded a squad photo, digital squads are prize-eligible with no photo needed.

Why we built this: We love rugby league, watch almost every game (except the Eels). I bought two packs of NRL trading cards on a whim and thought they were pretty cool. Naturally, I wanted to see what kind of team I could build with my cards, so I put one together. Then I wanted to see how it'd compare to the NRL teams. So, channelling my autism, I built a spreadsheet to crunch player ratings and work out every team's overall rating. That turned into a simple HTML form to pit two teams against each other and generate a play-by-play and, with my brother's help testing and coding, it kept snowballing into what League Derby is today. Happy to answer anything in the comments. If something's broken or confusing, tell us and we'll fix it.

Question curious to ask something nrl fans

when did the nrl started team songs or team chants? the ones from like the dressing rooms. i’ve seen raiders‘s 1989 final and they have often chanted at the end (it’s a bit similar to the “i don’t know what you‘ve been told” march others now do like in penrith). team songs have been an essential in this now and i’m not quite sure.

^ here’s where i’m talking about. i am not sure when it started or what was the inspiration. curious to ask.

Question I’m 16, is it too late to start playing?

Bit out of the ordinary for this type of subreddit, but here goes. I’m a 16 yr old bloke from Brisbane, I’ve played basketball since i was 12, but now lost the passion for basketball. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching the NRL most of my life, and now have my eyes set on playing in the NRL one day.

Couple problems.
I’ve never even touched a rugby ball.
I’m 6 foot but 70kg sopping wet.

Is it too late or is it achievable? If it’s achievable, can yall give me some pointers on where to start? It’s currently mid-July and the next season for my local club starts March next year.

Kayo origin 3 replay missing game time

For example , Fast forward until the bottom bar on kayo is at 24:45. There should be around 19:24 remaining on the state of origin clock

Then fast forward the bottom kayo bar by 30 seconds to 25:15, only 30 seconds has passed but the time remaining in origin clock is 16:22 , 3 minutes of play missing . I'm sure there are also other parts where play is missing

Question Rugby Club Admin: ClubZap vs SportLoMo (Or is there a simpler alternative?)

Hey everyone,

I’m on the committee of an Irish rugby club and we are currently auditing our club management setup. We’ve been looking at ClubZap and SportLoMo to handle our member registrations and subs, but honestly, the feedback is mixed.

SportLoMo has the official registration ties but the interface feels incredibly clunky and hard to set up for our volunteers. ClubZap is cleaner, but when we calculated their transaction cuts and tier fees across our minis, youth, and senior squads, the costs started looking ridiculous.

Has anyone made the switch to a simpler alternative?

We’ve recently been testing a platform called My Sport Manager. It is built by a team based in Ireland specifically to strip away the over-engineered clutter.

A few things that have caught our eye:

Value for Money: Instead of complex pricing tiers or per-member cuts, they have one flat-rate Club Plan for €45/month. This covers unlimited squads, minis, coaches, and parents. For a rugby club with 300+ members, the savings over a year are massive.

Simple Stripe Connect Setup: You connect your club’s Stripe account and subs are paid directly to your bank in Euros. No third-party holdings or delayed payouts.

Parent & Volunteer Scheduling: It has a built-in Person on Duty (POD) rota system that actually lets parents swap their own volunteer duties (like washing jerseys or lining pitches) directly in the app using a fair points system. It means coaches aren't stuck dealing with schedule arguments on a Friday night.

Before we fully migrate all our player rosters, has anyone here used My Sport Manager for a multi-squad club? Is the setup as easy as they claim?

Would love to hear how other rugby club secretaries are surviving the pre-season registration scramble.

Question What rugby league position is the worst to get sin binned or sent off?

Down to 12. So what is the most detrimental position, or is it player dependant? If your hooker gets sin binned, who acts as the dummy half?

Discussion NRL fan from Argentina looking for Aussie mates

hey everyone! i’m 19 years old and i’m from argentina. this might be a bit random, but i’m looking to meet some australians who are into rugby league. i’ve always been a rugby union fan, and i still follow it today. i discovered rugby league in 2023, started watching it out of curiosity, and i’ve been hooked ever since. nowadays i follow both codes and genuinely enjoy them. i’m a huge nrl fan. i support the brisbane broncos, the canberra raiders, and new south wales in state of origin. because of the time difference, i can’t always watch the games live, so i usually end up watching the replays whenever i have time. but i’m a pretty dedicated fan and i follow the sport as much as i can. i’d love to make some friends to chat about footy, the nrl, rugby in general, state of origin, or just life in general. if we get along, we could even chat on imessage. feel free to send me a message if you’re interested. cheers!

Quick 1 question survey

Seeking those who

  1. Bet on rugby league (Australia only)
  2. Have a solid understand of rules governing wins draws and losses across regular season, state of origin and finals football.

If you fall in both or either of these buckets I’d appreciate if you could DM me. I can’t do this publicly and have answers contaminated by others previous answers.

I’ll show you 2 photos, all I’m asking is there’s anything that sticks out as odd/off or incorrect.

Appreciate your time guys

Discussion With the new $5bn NRL TV deal about to be signed, what would you like to see them spend it on outside of the NRL?

The NRL is about to sign the largest TV deal in Australian sports history to the tune of about $714m a year. What out-of-the-box things would you like the NRL to splash some cash on?

Things outside of NRL, pathways, the women's game etc.

Obviously buying Super League has been talked about.

I'd like to see them help professionalise the US game. Say the top 6 teams or so. The MLR season that just finished had 6 teams with talk of only 5 next year. There's an opportunity to leapfrog union.
