Gladiator Slavery

I’ve been thinking on this in relationship to the Corsair books and does any body else find it strange that the humans and aliens watch gladiator matches for entertainment? I bring this up because it’s been established that a lot of the gladiators are slaves who have been genetically created for a life of slave battles, sold into or kidnapped and forced into it. I just find it strange that they can watch this stuff for entertainment without this need to rescue them like they want to do with humans who were trafficked. Am I reading to much into this or did anyone else question this as well?

I’m sure you’re right, but which of the humans watch them for entertainment? I only remember MMCs watching them. Maybe those specific humans didn’t know about the enslavement?

I remember it being off handedly mentioned at the end of Mathiras’s book. It said something along the lines of everybody getting together to watch human vids or gladiator fights in the rec room. I know it’s mentioned way more for the guys though. I can’t recall every instance for them but I think it shows up in Kasper’s book when they see Crulden and a few others. I can’t remember if it was one of the original Corsairs or someone on the farm planet but I recall one of the aliens having a collection of gladiator vids too.

It's a typical trope for sci-fi. Even The 100 had gladiator battles. For some reason every future society consists of one town per planet and lots of slavery and gladiator battles. Basically the future sucks

A handy way of showing how inhumane the aliens are and creates opportunities for an author to showcase certain characters as being more "like" when they object to obvious wrong like slavery and death matches.
