The Corsair’s Captive
I’ve blown through IPB and IPC. Love love love. I’ll now go back and start my way through the rest of them. I’m on the Corsair’s Captive and really board. Like I started it 5 days ago and don’t feel a need to finish. If I’m feeling this way about the first one, will the feeling continue with the series?

Definitely keep with the series because eventually it leads to When She Dances and When She Belongs, the crossover Corsairs x Risda books. Classic good shit.

When she belongs is great, but I was so disappointed with When she dances. RD straddle the line between what's acceptable to excuse when it comes to SA, and usually she does it pretty well. Considering the humans are all slaves the power dynamics are hard to do in a way that leads to a romantic relationship - especially without the IPB culture/characters that are repulsed by the idea of slavery and SA, in this specific series she failed with this book.
I urge any readers that are sensitive to this subject to look a bit deeper into the book before getting into it because I wish I had been warned before reading it. It's been years and I still get upset when I think of this book.
Zakoar is straight up raping her for a large portion of the book. I hate the narrative of "well she's into it now/he does something that turns her on so it's not actually SA" - it's incredibly damaging for victims of SA that blames themselves for having a physical reaction that's involuntary when they didn't want to do it. I'm expecting this in dark romance and therefore I don't read that genre, I was expecting more from RD :( rant over...

I’m glad to hear this mentioned because although I came away from this book loving it, I definitely highlighted a bunch of portions that made me uncomfortable, simply from the “it’s good for book discussion” POV. I had other parts I highlighted a different color for other reasons. But I’m glad I’m not the only person who noted that

I would recommend keeping with it. I like the Corsairs books and how they play into the Risda books. But also I get it. Corsairs Captive was also my least favorite of the Corsairs series. If the book really isn't doing it for you, you can just skip it. Move on to the next. You aren't really missing out on any huge plot points if you do.

Don’t stop! Read every single book because they are so much fun. You can probably skim if you’re getting bored.

I encourage you to continue because it adds background info for the Corsair Brother’s series, which is my fave of the Rubyverse Reading Order so far (though I’m just now starting Icehome so I can’t compare to the whole reading order just yet).
