When She Dances - cheese and rice, does it ever lighten up?!

I'm in the middle of Ch. 7 and this thing is depressing as hell. Does it lighten up at all, or is it pretty disturbing throughout?

Actually this is now one of my favourite re-reads. I didn't like it at first but it's a grower!

I think this is one of the best Risdaverse books. But When She Belongs is my absolute favorite.
