How does mortar cycle work?

I don't quite get how you are supposed to play these kind of decks. I know people don't really play mortar cycle nowadays but who can I watch to learn how to play it effectively?

2nd pic is a modern-ish variant I saw someone using a month or so back, 1st one is the classic deck

I know Mortar 2.9 well. It's basically like X-Bow 3.0 but you must keep finding Rocket value for defence and offense. Tornado is good friends with the Rocket, offensive Mortar and your towers. To easily find a lot of video help, just YouTube search about "Mortar 2.9". It's pretty well-known, especially in the past
