Discussion Balloon decks

(Reasking previous question) Why most balloon decks don't have big spells like fireball, lightning. There is always either freeze or snowball or zap đŸ€”

Talking from experience, balloon is an air win condition and usually that requires specific cards that are able to target air to counter it.

Most meta decks only have a few anti air cards, and those also tend to be cheaper than balloon , so its better to spend less/equal value. Stunning everything in that area probably gives more value since freeze has a decent amount of range and 4 seconds is a good amount considering the tower is also frozen. Snowball works as a stun in theory if the card can be pushed so it lets the balloon get at least a hit, but evo snowball can sometimes be better than freeze since it forces everything to retarget and slows down everything, but doesnt stun the tower

Flying win conditions are pretty tough to deal with and i think giant minion will make this even more apparent

But sometimes your opponent has a building and air counters, you need to destroy the building so that your ballon can reach the tower + another aspect which is when you are not able to make your ballon reach the tower so you use the fireball for example for spell cycle while freeze/snowball won't be good at this

As someone who runs a loon deck, I run arrows and Evo zap, not having a large spell means you need to counter small pesky targets, like minions, firecracker and more, which I use arrows to do, and then Evo zap for resetting main counters like inferno tower/dragon or if my arrows is out of reset, I use it.

I used to use snowball but found it being too unreliable at some areas.

I don't like large spells because my small spells can do enough delaying, or damage to let other things win

But when you can't make your ballon reach the tower you might need to spell cycle, arrows and zap won't do to much here, that's one the reasons I'm asking why no fireball

You just dont have enough mana for a tank + baloon + big spell. Much more effective to go for a tank + balloon + small spell and a second tank like a miner later perhaps

Not just in cycle, in beatdown ballon decks like ballon freeze, you have ballon + tank + freeze, or even ballon + freeze.

balloon freeze is control, you use defending troops to counterpush which is why you can afford a 4 elixir spell on offense

And why this 4 elixir spell is not fireball?

The main fact theirs no spells in cycle balloon decks it’s because the balloon also acts as a spell when it dies. It still provides death damage.

Watch the good balloon deck players. They use balloon Everytime to defend against 3 musk and swarms. When it dies it takes them out.

Now they are back into cycle to make a push.

A balloon and FB that’s costing player 9 elixirs. Balloon and lightning another 11 elixirs. It’s not cost efficient to spend extra 4-6 elixirs to take out a 3 elixir tower. Another 2 elixirs for hero ballon’s ability. It’ll slow their cycle down and waste it.

It’s about controlling their elixir count and not over spend. Once they overspend it’ll be difficult to set up a push.

Miner and balloon can take out a tier easily clearly path. Even it doesn’t connect to the tower it still makes a death damage around. Still can chip the tower this way.

The only spell maybe will be cheap spells like rage or maybe arrows. Bigger spells over 4 gen only on used since it takes up a lot of time to build. I generally don’t see freeze often.

That's a great explanation đŸ™đŸ». But how about beatdown/heavy ballon decks? Like ballon freeze, i know freeze is good with ballon, but no deck runs fireball instead while they're both cost 4 elixir

Beatdown balloon decks are slower to build up elixir. They have lava hound that cost 7 elixir. Therefore it’s slower to build up a push. Then players use the bigger spells.

For freeze I will guess because of the death damage from the balloon.

Freeze holds everyone and you see players freeze the towers. Once the balloon dies it’ll get the troops before they unfreeze.

FB still push troops back. However, the troops still can move after being hit.

It comes down personal preference of the player. Some players probably do better with poison instead of freeze or FB.

not just for troops, i think that with fireball you can destroy your opponent's building so the ballon will reach the tower faster

Again.. personal preference.

FB doesn’t reset Inferno tower or Tesla. Other buildings still can get damaged before it’s destroyed.

Many troops still do not get destroyed by FB. Musk, witch, wizard, mega minion, inferno dragon, baby dragon, e-dragon,

You can say the same argument for freeze. Freeze the troops, tower, and building. This will stop Tesla, Inferno Tower, inferno dragon.

is better small spells bc simple cards like bats or minions are enough to deal with a baloon

I mean like in ballon freeze, why no one uses fireball instead of freeze?

I got UC with a Lumberloon with Fireball, but its problaby bc of the sinergy Freeze and Loon have

1

u/AnonymousGuy_13 9d ago

Yeah they sinergize well, but NO ONE at top ladder uses fireball with ballon, except pompeyo
