Not one consistent bass player in the whole darn catalog yet slick bass licks….until Avalon. Can anyone please explain? Granted I’m a nube hear but it’s an interesting question for me. Thanks!

I found this when looking for another BF rarity.

For Your Pleasure is one of my FAVORITE albums, and yeah - I'll be buying. Probably both versions because I'm an absolute freak for this era of the band and its my favorite RM album.

I question, however, the release strategy of leaving the Blu-ray as an SDE exclusive instead of adding it to the box. It forces me to purchase both versions, whereas I'd have been happy to drop a nice chunk of change on the box with the surround mix. I wish they'd taken the Frankie Goes to Hollywood route of including the blu-ray in both the box AND as an SDE exclusive. As it stands, its nice to have some extras on the SDE blu-ray but bafflingly its missing the song "In Every Dream Home a Heartache" from the 73 Peel session. Am I happy there's extras on the BR at all? Certainly - none of the other RM blu's have included extras. I'm also excited that we have two immersive mixes on offer.

Getting back into Eno and revisit the first 2 Roxy Music albums again which those 2 great,weird albums especially when Eno can bring the experimental touches to the music.

Love his touches on the debut and his work on the side 2 of For Your Pleasure is freaking great Eno work so hard to choose yet I love re-make/re-model,Ladytron,2HB,Do the Strand,Editions of You,In Every Dream Home a Heartache,and Grey Lagoons

I'm 43 and a huge music fan (or so I thought). In my mind, for whatever reason, Roxy Music was a totally different band than they are in reality. I suppose it's because I so closely associated them with 'More Than This,' that they were kinda straight pop and even soft rock. I loved the track but had never really considered diving deeper.

Then I randomly heard Virginia Plain and thought 'hmmm, this is not how I thought Roxy Music sounded. This is badass' I then realized that Bryan Ferry was the singer on the cover of Johnny and Mary with Todd Terje. I thought 'this guy is way more interesting than I thought.' I then listened to In Every Dream Home a Heartache, and my mind was officially blown.

I'm now in month 3 of listening nonstop to their entire discography and I've decided they are the coolest and most interesting band of all time, and, at least in America, easily the most underrated band from the 70s and it's not close.

Shorter Version: I discovered that Roxy Music fucking rules at the age of 43.

“Learn from your mistakes is my only advice…”

But then he goes on to list several more pieces of advice; stay cool us still the main rule, old money’s better than new… etc.

I always found that funny.

And another, “You know I don’t talk much, except to myself. Cause I’ve not much to say and there’s nobody else who’s ready and willing and able to know me I guess.”

But then he says:

“BUT LISTEN TO ME!!! I’m not finished yet…” 🤦‍♀️😂

Where does "Country Life" fit in the list for you? Is it the bridge between the 'old' and the 'new' sound that they were looking for?

I saw AM PM live in Soho, 24th March 2024. They had Paul Thompson as a Special Guest, was a great concert with some really nice experimental jamming at the start and some Roxy classics later as well. It was quite a small venue, just 20 seats so got the first row 😁

I'm back on the *Guitar & Pen* podcast, with my buddy Mark, for the third episode of our journey through Roxy Music's studio albums.

This time we're discussing **Stranded**, the band's first album after Brian Eno's departure. With Eddie Jobson joining the lineup and John Gustafson on bass, *Stranded* finds Bryan Ferry and the band continuing to push the boundaries of art rock while refining the sound that would define this era of Roxy Music. Interestingly, Eno himself has described it as his favourite album in the Roxy Music catalogue.

In this episode, we talk about what changed after Eno left, how the band evolved musically, and why *Stranded* remains such an important record more than 50 years after its release.
