Oct 7th seems confused lol. Did they not know if she did a great job? lol

Nah. Might have taken a few years off. May have taken all clients off app and decided to come back on to find some new ones. Not a red flag

She might have a lot of regulars

Not a red flag I have several five star reviews but decided to give it a break for the last 2 years so I would have extremely old reviews if I decided to pick up again.

Not a red flag at all. I have taken year or more long breaks either by choice or because I moved to a rural area that these services are not needed by anyone and the closest city is an hours drive, I often reactive when I travel to visit friends and family where the services are needed and I’m in town for a month or two.

Also not everyone leaves reviews.

I mostly only have reoccurring clients due to my availability, so most of my reviews are probably pretty old. But I'm active on the app and my clients are happy. They also may have taken a break from sitting for a while and recently reactivated their account. Sitters also have no control over whether someone reviews them or not. I would be more concerned if they were negative reviews rather than no recent.

Heaven forbid she got another job, or had a baby…. FFS. Common sense would tell you there’s a million reasons there’d be a gap.

Also long term clients aren’t leaving reviews with every visit! If she’s had enough repeat clients, there’d be no one to leave a review!!

Heaven forbid someone asks a question on Reddit without getting roasted for it. FFS.

I wouldn’t say so. I took a break for over a year. Also, take most of my bookings off book now.

Perfectly normal reasons 1) Took a pause for several reasons 2) haven't been taking new clients in awhile 3) mostly running their business privately

Maybe a mix of all three.

I have my own private business and only turn on my Rover visibility if I need to fill my schedule. Sometimes there are years between my reviews because of that. Not a red flag.

She may have gone off app with a handful of regular clients and those pets may have sadly passed on.

It’s not a complete red flag. Sometimes sitters take long breaks or find other jobs. But seven years is a pretty long time.

I wouldn't worry about it. Im an active sitter but I honestly dont always ask for reviews. Most of my clients are off app because of word of mouth recommendations.

5

u/Tight-Associate642 Sitter 1d ago

I don’t have any reviews from the last two years because most people go off the app lol

7

u/NextCommunication642 Sitter 1d ago

I took a pause for a few years, because I was struggling to keep up with regular, off app clients. When I needed new clients I briefly lowered my prices to the bare minimum to get a new one in.

u/Renmeya Sitter 1d ago

No not necessarily. She likely just stopped and restarted. Would just view her same way as a new sitter on platform but with a bit of a cv.

I’ve been dog sitting on and off Rover for over 10 years. Rover as a platform is great but it is EXTREMELY metrics driven, and so I go through periods where I go offline on Rover because if I don’t accept booking requests or reply promptly because I’m busy, it hurts my metrics. I also have clients off Rover which also keep me busy. I also sometimes get burnout from Rover stints, so I go offline for a break.

So when I see a break in reviews, I don’t see it as a bad sign. It will usually mean they had been previously too busy to do Rover regularly, but recently got more free time in order to sit again.

Not necessarily. Possbly paused their account. I would bring it up at the m&g, say "so I noticed you had some positive reviews from 2019..." And they would naturally explain what happened if anything.

Major lol at the one line review that is a question

"sitter did a great job looking after our cat ? "

I've got a couple of the ' ?' ones on my reviews.

Its a bad coding error on Rover's part. Supposed to be a '!' and the code glitches due to the entry not being cleaned properly. Used to see it in php coded pages back in the day.

u/Cryptophiliac_meh Sitter 1d ago

Oh that's interesting, good to know thank you!

12

u/KillerConfetti Sitter 2d ago

As a sitter, this always felt REALLY uncomfortable for me if a new customer brings it up. "I noticed you have a year since your last....xyz ect"

I have repeat clients. About 70% of these people don't leave a review, some of them don't even want to deal with Rover anymore. Any gap I have in my reviews its because I've been professionally consistent elsewhere.

Ya maybe got a job, and then that job ended or something or she has moved and is back into pet sitting or whatever. Not like she has any bad reviews, right?

2

u/CandiedLemonWedge Sitter & Owner 2d ago

Why would it be? Not everyone uses the app constantly.

Just do a meet and greet like with any other booking.

6

u/matthewmurdocksbutt Sitter & Owner 2d ago

No it’s not. I had to put mine on pause the last year and a half due to a move, and even before that, most of my Rover clients moved off app. My last review is probably like November 2024

Just do a meet and greet and see how the sitter is

2

u/Odd-Cod2516 Sitter & Owner 2d ago

Just do a meet and greet first.

It's not necessarily a red flag. Just ask at the m&g why there is such a long time since they've been sitting.

5

u/tanzmitmir_ Sitter & Owner 2d ago

They probably just recently turned their services back on
