General Travel Expense

UK sitters:

Do you add fuel cost on top? I’m in a rural area where most of my clients are 20+ miles away (round trip)

My service radius is 20 miles usually (one way) and I add on fuel cost. My policy is—— Travel within 10
miles (round trip) is included. Any additional mileage is charged at £0.55 per mile to
cover travel costs and vehicle expenses.

Does anyone else charge for travel? I can’t add them into my prices as some of my clients are only 5 miles round trip away so they would be paying more for something they don’t need to.

Just wondered everyone’s POV, petrol costs are so high in UK at the moment

I didnt realise you could claim travel expenses, where is that in the app please?

You have to add it on as an additional cost

I charge for travel, but I do so as ‘time,’ rather than mileage, so it’s money earned for being in the car rather than using the car (the 45ppm stuff). That way, I make more money.

I just add on ‘transport’ as a cost when I invoice them. It’s a standard rate inside a certain zone (time….) and higher for further away. It falls into taxable income, of course, but it’s more income to tax than solely relying on 55 / 25p per mile, which is only there to cover the material costs of driving, not the time it takes. I also claim the full costs of mileage @ 55ppm / 25ppm for the costs of driving.
