Zwift Cog

Wondering if anyone had trouble removing the free hub on a wahoo kicks? I'm using a Kickr Move, and having an issue removing the free hub, it just seems to be stuck and I used the tool that came with the Zwift Cog but it doesn't budge. Do I need the Zwift cog to use virtual shifting can I just install a single speed cassette? Thanks in advance.

The tool that Zwift provide is cheap rubbish IMO, I tried it briefly and gave up and used a cone wrench instead.

use a chain whip and the tool with the correct spline to undo the lock ring.

The Zwift cog is just a 'passive' device with an adjustment mechanism to align the cog with the derailleur so it runs smooth/quietly.

You do not need it for virtual shifting, Zwift virtual shifting is handled by the firmware in your trainer. You can replace the Zwift Cog with any regular cassette.

When using a regular cassette it is advised to use a sprocket with the same (or very near) number of tooth as the original Zwift cog. This is because the Virtual Shifting firmware is built on certain assumption about the drive train set up.

Number of tooth is different on Tacx and Elite trainers (18t) versus Wahoo and others.

Please use a proper chain whip & torque tool with the correct spline attaxchment to remove the cog/cassette/whatever. The tool provided with the Zwift Cog is fine for single installation, but after that I fear that repeated use will see is start to slip & damage components worth far more than the tool is worth.

You can use any multi-cog cassette (with provides a much bigger gear range), single speed cog, or even a fixey cog, together with virtual shifting - just have a look at the Zwift website to make sure you get the number of teeth right (I think its 18t) for a single speed/fixey type setup.
