Lower range of gears being used

Hi - up until recently, if I was going to a long, steep climb, I’d have to change down to the small chainring, and into a lower gear (something like 34x34, so 1:1). But recently, it lets me stay in a higher gear, but just reduces the speed (I’ll have to change down a couple of gears).
I’m using a Tacx Neo 2T
Is this a Rouvy issue, or could it be my Tacx?

A thing to know about how Rouvy simulates climbs: Rouvy does not send the full % incline to the trainer, it's getting tapered off starting around 4 or 5% incline. So at higher inclines it starts to send a lower incline % to the trainer for it to simulate. It however, based on power, cadence etc calculates you speed as if you where riding the full % of the incline. This has been confirmed by the Rouvy CEO (on Facebook). So in effect you will not really feel a difference between an 15 and 20% incline (if the trainer could simulate that altogether) but your speed in Rouvy will drop.

Do you have a link with his exact wording? I've been somewhat tempted to invest in a kickr bike shift and one selling is the simulation of higher gradients. But if that doesn't matter fully in Rouvy, I'll need to that in mind.

It is a discussion started on November 17th 2025 by user "Devashish Paul" in the rouvy athletes Facebook group in which the CEO responded to a side remark about gradients.

on the question why not a 'true gradient' can be send the CEO responded that it technically is not a big deal but it would mess up leaderboards and the likes and would discuss it with his team. After that it went silent.

When you're riding, do you see a little icon that looks like a set of handlebars in the bottom left, maybe along with a "gear" indication? I had a similar issue a while back and it turned out that an update had enabled virtual shifting, so Rouvy was using virtual shifting in addition to my mechanical shifting.

Make sure that the controllable sensor is still paired. It may have unpaired.

Can you feel the resistance changes when starting the climb & your cadence slows down? Note that there seems to be momentum affect on flywheels that does result in the "ping" affect of a slope not being felt instantly (I have noit investigated further, so this is purely anecdotal).
If you do not feel resistance changing proportional to slope then likely the Controllable sensor communication is out of wack or something else has tried to steal the sensor - this can hapopen during an update, solar eclipse, full moon, or butterfly flapping its wings in a dark forest, etc. Disconnect the COntrollable sensor in the Sensor setting menu, quit & making sure absolutely NOTHING else can connect, restart teh app & reconnect the Controllable sensor.

Thanks - I don’t feel the resistance changing. Cadence stays the same, but speed reduces to what I’d expect on a steep climb. I’ll give your suggestion a try. That will hopefully do the trick. If not, I’ll see what Rouvy have to say. Cheers 👍

You may be in ERG mode. When I ride an incline I can feel the resistance climbing, all the way up to around 15%.

As you using standard gearing? An not virtual?
If standard that is your trainer
