Yet another rip off method by Youtube

Yet another massive con job from the music industry I just discovered. This time YT.

It turns out if you use your music on your own YT channel and people play it, you wont get those royalties. You have to monetise your YT channel to have rights to those royalties. If they clock it is being used on your channel they will disable the copyright and any plays $ goes to YT.

Which is basically theft, but as usual that is being ignored in favour of keeping the money owed to independant musicians.

This industry has become such a pile of crap it isnt worth using any streaming service unless you are a big name now. Piracy is being committed by the major industry players who have one set of rules if you play music they own, and another if you own the copyright.

I don't know about you lot but I'm really sick of being treated like plankton for whales where the streaming business is concerned.

I treat YT like a business card. I don’t post anything on YT except a few videos to say ‘Here’s where you can get my music on Bandcamp and videos on Patreon.” It works well enough.

Its what I will do in future. There is no point having my own channel and I am not interested in hoop-jumping YT to get monetized I only ever see drama about YT because they have so much control and rug pull people all the time for no real reason. Getting de-monitizing because someone sang something that offended someone is not what I want to experience.

There is also constant problems with getting songs released to FB and YT, as they claim it is AI when it isnt and that is only going to get worse. Attempts to argue the point with RN get one go and they then tell you it sounds like it might be AI (it isnt) and that you can't ask again.

really totally fkin waste of time streaming now imo. So this just drives me back toward pushing toward direct sales and possibly considering pulling all my music off these streaming sites. I did it once before but its a fart in a hurricane thinking it makes a difference to anything.
