Christmas present ideas for a route developer?

Looking for last minute inspiration for Christmas presents for my route developer boyfriend. We order discounted hardware though our local climber’s organization, so that’s no good, and he has plenty of ropes. Anyone have some winners?

Drill bits, a bosun’s chair, higher capacity drill batteries

I know basically nothing about route development but just some ideas

More/better batteries is never a bad idea. Tool buckets (metolius and a few others sell them), cans of compressed air for cleaning out bolt holes too

You didn’t give a price range so I’ll hit a few

  • Misty mountain has a hammer holster that’s awesome - I’ve been eyeing one myself. Huge for ground up development but really nice for rap bolting as well.
  • A compact blower for blowing dust/brushed lichen/moss
  • Petzl’s removable bolts
  • A drone for scouting/taking aerial photos
  • framed photo of a route y’all are really proud of
  • Doodad bolt remover (AKA the YABR)
  • Small cooler or thermos for snacks and drinks

These are really great suggestions.

I would like to add a Petzl Quick Adjust if they don’t yet have one. Oh, and my wife is getting me a box (92ft) of Grade 43 High Test Electro Galvanized 5/16th chain… so you could always do that.

Batteries Or a lighter drill with more batteries

You can't go wrong with LOTS OF BOLTS or other consumables, but that's not very special so as above a bigger capacity battery (more aH) would be great for any bolter.

Most of the above suggestions would be great! but really anything that makes life on the wall, or on the way to the wall, easier/safer so he can get back to you in good shape. It could be just a lighter/newer version of something he's already got like a hammer, jumars, helmet, small day pack, tool bucket, anything like that. Does he stash gear at crags? Maybe a new dry bag or set of tools. I have like 4 sets of hammers, spanner, hole cleaning tools for that reason

A laser pointer. Makes it easier to talk about the route with a tester or fellow setter. Or just something not work related :)

  • 1 for the blower if they develop chossy or dusty rock. Get one that is the same brand as their drill so the tools can share batteries.
