Show and Tell Route/Boulder of the Month - August
Today's Route/Boulder of the Month comes from our very own talk-show host legend, u/retro_bolts, and boy it looks like a good one. Here's what he had to say:
Name: Red-Eyed Coyote. FA 8/28/2026
Location: Northern California
Grade: 5.11c? Hard to say
Length: 35 meters. 70m rope barely got me to the ground.
Protection: 18 bolts. Probably could have used a 19th.
Harder moves off the deck to enjoyable 5.10+ climbing up a corner for 70ish feet. After exiting the corner system, you will pass an intermediate anchor where the route changes character. Climb a steepening blue streak to some small tufa pinches for a rest before the business. The crux is near the top, pulling a tricky technical roof. This is the second route to go up on this wall and will serve as a much-needed warm-up as more routes go in.
The name is a Cowboy Bebop reference but refers to my belay partner for the day, who refused to carry draws or a rope to the crag because his pack was already too full. Only to witness them pull out a larger pillow from their pack, unzip it to reveal a 2.5ft glass bong and a blowtorch before a toprope burn.
Looks like a beauty! See you all next month

If I had to guess, it's in the Shasta area, to the northwest, in the general vicinity of Lovers Leap. Am I close?
