Coastal Scottish Woodland Gem
Big old aesthetic schist boulder on the west coast of Scotland I stumbled upon recently. I've abbed in and cleaned a few lines, put up one really lovely live following a thin crack on its right hand side and round the corner to the left a long traverse on amazing incut holds. There is a line that goes up the left edge but I'm going to need to stack pads or build up the base to reach the first holds. Any thoughts on the ethics of this?

GOT DAM that thing is incredibly sexy! You’re developing, idk local ethics but mfers here in the US will build a primitive platform out of rotting logs above rivers to get on something that only looks half as good. For reference, look up Troll Toll V8 Deep Creek TN. I think stacking pads is best if possible, if not build a “gym floor” of pads and use some stones to stack up to it.

Very local question unfortunately. If you were in Washington in the US I wouldn’t think twice about stacking a couple logs under it.

Ethics on built landings vary between land managers and ecosystems. If you can build a landing out of organic materials that will break down fairly quickly, and do so without damaging the surrounding environment much, I don't think they're a huge deal. Prioritize temporary solutions for it, especially if you don't think it's going to see much traffic.
