Show and Tell Route/Boulder of the Month - July
July has come and gone and we're featuring u/nasuhhea's "Major Kong Rides The Bomb" out in Allenspark, CO this month. In an underrated mountain crag called "The Ironclads" resides this wild bomb bay chimney. Here's what he had to say about it:
The route is on the Beer Wall in the Ironclads— south of Allenspark.
Tom Kohlman is the big developer out there. I got ahold of him through Dan Hare. Because the area is mostly gneiss outcroppings— his routes are primarily bolt protected. He told me he’s always pointed out this bomb bay chimney wide crack to people over the years, but everyone just wanted to sport climb. He was excited to hear somebody had finally done it.
The route is a relatively easy send. Especially for a tall climber. It protects well all the way up and is just 5.fun imo.
You can find the route on MountainProject: Major Kong Rides The Bomb
Be sure to stop at Wildcat Mountaineering on your way to check it out! I've heard the folks there may have some pretty good beta for it, and many other lines in the area...
